How many players in this defence will be with us next season?
Add injuries to incompetence and and I can only think of ONE!

I think a new back line is needed. We can’t stop conceding and defensively we just aren’t up to scratch. I rated Belahoun when he played right back but Butler must see something that worries him because he can’t get a game.

I’ve always liked Denton. Evans was a rock last season and mostly this, but with his age and injuries I fear he’s past his sell by date.

The rest just aren’t up to scratch. Horton might be but certainly not at centre half. Jones has done OK but a goalkeeper is surely one of the priorities for next season.

Best corner kicks this season from Braintree?

I’m more than happy with the were gonna score more goals than you stance at the moment.

Our own number 1 goalie is a necessity, whether that’s Jones or not I don’t know haven’t seen enough of him.
Can’t fault Butler with the attacking options he’s brought us this season like with everyone else some will work some won’t. A defender prioritising attack over defence never saw that coming, works for me.

Every corner scares the crap out of me and Braintree clearer did their homework on us!
Also, since when did AB decide that sand edge passing (with or without optional fade / slice) was de rigeur? Cannot believe how many times our defence and midfield show zero control or creativity once on the ball.
Come on AB, we were better than this!

BLT, I thought that Denton would cruise into this division – a top NLN FB.
He is, however, making many more mistakes this season.

JB easily our best defender, cannot understand why Butler does not play him, perhaps as he is not fully fit.
Andy Boyce does need to retire, in fact i think this is his last season with us, and Boyce is not good enough for League 2 if we do win the play offs.
i do not think starbuck and Barrows will be ok in league 2 mainly for there poor distribution.

He has been having injections, Bhuna, so not 100% I expect, Boyce seems to be making mistakes that get punished, but to me he plays better with Evans, but the defence is unsettled maybe because it gets changed every week

Have I just missed something, thought that was our third consecutive away win and four wins out the last five games? Moving on yes the defence needs a revamp next season but we have discussed this for weeks so it’s not a new subject is it? As for Belahoun well he’s been out with nasty ankle injury since January and has had two injections and almost needed an operation so it’s obvious AB will be easing him back in, if some of you kept up with injury talk from the manager you wouldn’t have to ask or repeat the same old questions. Another cracking away win and playoffs looking virtually nailed on now, well done Iron 👏👏👏

When we started passing the ball on the floor (not everybody) then we looked a class above. But oh, that defence!!!! A decent team would have scored 5 or 6.

We need both + especially if we go up.

Completely new defence for me please. JB to stay as well. We will need cover at some point.

Boyce needs putting out to grass .. just ok NLN but too old n slow for NL

How many more times are people going to pick out our captain who has already said on air weeks ago that he’s retiring end of the season and went in to some detail about his future plans outside football? He is going. His choice. He knows he’s done. End of. Give the guy a break. On the whole he’s been a good servant.

Wasnt being nasty DM ..others have also commented on recent highlighted lack of pace.

So at least he knows his race is run which is good .. nice bloke and yes agree hes been a fantastic servant just there is a distinct chance his legacy will be tainted by his last half season of service.
Sadly no replacement so Boycee has had to carry on knowing hes past it which is a tad unfair.

Boyce to lift the play off final trophy at wembley would be a fitting end to his iron career.
I think the trophy will be presented to Mr. Boyce by Positivity Dave, from his royal box seat !?

The fact that Boyce is retiring at the end of the season is irrelevant. He should be nowhere near the team based on his recent performances.

Yes he’s been a decent servant to us, but he is well past his sell by date.

    He knows he’s done.

Then he should be nowhere near the starting 11.

Is there an echo? There’s a key point missing in your chamber; I haven’t said he should be in the starting eleven. The fact the club hasn’t recognised the problem sooner and addressed it isn’t the player’s fault. That’s relevant, like it or not.

Given he has been the only fit centre back at the club for the last few weeks it’s hardly surprising he has been playing.
For an older pro having to play 2 games a week in a team who’s midfield has gone pretty much AWOL the old fella has not done too badly. Did we not just win 3 games in the last week despite 25 hours sitting on a bus?

I think that’s fair. In an ideal world, he could have been rotated and rested a bit.

Horton and Denton are both good enough to compete at LB. A fully fit rose, Starbuck are good enough for RB. Evans and Jb good enough for CB, but will still need one or two more.

Boyce is passed it and Barrows is nowhere near good enough. Dire need of a keeper. Jones is in a similar bracket to Mahady, but with inferior distribution. Incredible shot topper, but looks unsure on claiming high balls and not too good at commanding his box.

If we get a good, solid keeper and a CB or two…we should be ok at the back.

Well we’ve got till the Thursday deadline day to add to the defence, then again he could always get another to play on the left.

I think 2 young and mobile CB’s are a must based on all the comments you read and hopefully as a defensive unit because when you watch the goals conceded several times some seem to lose track of ‘their’ man.

As regard Jones in goal it becomes a trait after our coaching, we make line sitters allowed little movement from that line !

Yes they have done amazing but our budget is not the biggest and some offered new contracts may move on due to our limits. And you can understand that. Should the club be fortunate to gain promotion they will obviously gain a bigger solidarity payment but will it be enough.

    Certainly many talking points ahead.

Those “2 young and mobile CB’s” may already be in the building in JB and Rose…just very unfortunate with their injuries this season!
