Two of the top ranked teams making it to the final was always the most likely outcome. That’s to do with the original draw for the competition and the implementation of “seeded” teams. If you think that is fixing it for the top ranked teams, fair enough. Despite seeing some odd refereeing and VAR decisions the only nation to benefit from the direct intervention of FIFA was the USA.

The next World Cup will mark the centenary of the competition yet there have been only eight different winners. Three from South America and five from Europe. It is FIFA’s job to promote WORLD football and as long as the winner keeps coming from those two continents it could be argued that they are not doing their job.

They expanded the tournament to 48 nations this time round yet the winners will be one of two who first appeared in the 1930s.

FIFA would love to see a country from outside of Europe or South America win it but I don’t see it changing.
