Supermarkets?
Aye.
In France, last summer, the checkout lady watched me unfold my bags, flap them to open them, then place them in the trolley to receive my shopping.
She then asked ho look in the bags.
I refused, telling her she’d just seen me open them from flat.
She told me she had to insist as it was store policy.
She had NOT checked the bags of the two French families in front of us.
So I explained to her that she had a choice: she could adhere to store policy and look in my bags, or not do so.
But I told her my policy: you insist, I’ll walk out leaving all my shopping on the till belt.
She didn’t look.
