Former Radio Humberside commentator Tony Shephardson chats to former Iron utility man Steve Lister in our latest 1980s podcast special.

Lister discusses his time at Doncaster Rovers under Billy Bremner, where he made 236 appearances in a six year stint. A string of impressive performances attracted the interest of Liverpool – who eventually chose to sign prolific striker Ian Rush instead.

He then recalls how the move to Scunthorpe came about and talks us through his seven year spell at the club. Tony and Steve discuss a number of spectacular own goals – many of which flew past Paul Musselwhite, reflects on a 6-3 victory over Chelsea in the Cup, scoring the last goal at the Old Showground in a feisty play off defeat to Torquay and making the move to Glanford Park in 1989.

He also opens up on injuries and a sour end to his Iron career as he missed out on a Wembley appearance against Blackpool in 1992, before leaving for Boston United where he finished his career.
