Just caught up on yesterday, including Butler’s post-match interview and various newspaper reports etc – all of which featured Butler mentioning “boo boys”. There seems to be some quite thin skin, here. Can Andy Butler say for certain that he was being booed, or the team was being booed, rather than the referee or the opposition?
November 23, 2025 at 1:20 pm #313538It’s all about performance, perform and the crowd will back them all the way, if they don’t then people will have their say, even when they win (ala marine last season)
From reports the crowd have given Butler and the team latitude with having such a promising start to the season and quite rightly so, but it’s 9 games since the Carlisle defeat and performances appear to have dropped off, so if there’s booing maybe Butler should reflect on what he needs to do.
Are Liverpool fans not questioning Slot even though they won the title course they are because what’s on show is not acceptable.
Never had a manager before who’s criticized the fans as much as he does, if you don’t like it Butler “Do one”1 user thanked author for this post.
November 23, 2025 at 1:49 pm #313539Andy Butler does right to take exeption at some of the dogs abuse I’ve witnessed aimed at him for our so called fans who seem to think it’s their right to be abusive, while pretending to exercise their right to criticise. Absolute awful human beings who should be nowhere near other humans. That said, there was a bizarre one near me yesterday ,just as Braintree scored a fan shouted in a clearly exasperated voice “what’s going on!” didn’t seem to be particularly aimed anywhere yet Butler took exception seemed to lose concentration completely and mouthed something at the fan who looked confused and just shrugged his shoulders, Butler for a few minutes kept turning round to glare and mouth stuff. This guy looked pretty shocked . I can only assume that Butler has groan tired of the loons and this guy copped it for them. It juat looked odd

November 23, 2025 at 1:53 pm #313541Never felt inclined to boo my team or manager – that shambles of a performance at Marine probably as close as I ever came Awaywego.
However we were shockingly bad at Solihull last week and were lucky to escape with a point against a very poor team yesterday.
Not many shades of grey with football fans Andy. Adulation when you win and criticism when you don’t. If Carlton had scored a second goal yesterday we would have likely got 2 or 3 before your substitution bingo and you would be a genius.
If you can’t handle a bit of criticism with good grace when your team plays poorly it might not be the career for you.

November 23, 2025 at 2:07 pm #313543I genuinely think that he’s suffered undue abuse which has been far too prevalent in the last year or so, we have soe awful fans. just didn’t see this that way .
November 23, 2025 at 2:39 pm #313546to 64 and Awaywego, i have criticized the team and Butler and Mr. Butler looked my way in the Threadgould stand mouthing something and pointing to me and pointing out like he wanted me thrown out the ground !
The assistant manager calmed Butler down. I was shocked like the fan yesterday, as butler will get shouted at if the performances are not good enough, that’s football, maybe the wrong career for Butler.
Bring back Jimmy Dean, a nice guy, who would apologize if they had not played well.1 user thanked author for this post.

“Need to be sharper in both boxes”
“Need to be better through the thirds”
“We weren’t really on it”
But never poor. Nobody wants to see a team b********g in the middle of the pitch but players need to be left in no doubt that what we are currently watching is totally unacceptable before the fans do the talking and walk.1 user thanked author for this post.
November 23, 2025 at 3:01 pm #313548Butler seem to be over protective of players to the point of losing sight of what we all witnessed. We gave a poor team a point. AB just be honest we ain’t stupid we know what we are watching and a present its not great.
We are playing like a mid-table team which at the start of the season we were all happy to be. But when we are poor we can all say it and don’t need to be abusive, (booing is expressing a view its not abusive). There is plenty of effort and hard work just the inability to shoot (and score) is missing. BTW Westwood and Horton both look better by the week2 users thanked author for this post.
November 23, 2025 at 3:27 pm #313551Ultimately, Andy Butler is trying his best but he seems to be quite thin skinned. To the point where people are booing or shouting and it might not even be aimed at him or the players and he assumes it is!
I agree we want a positive environment, and the achievement so far this season merits a bit of positivity really – but telling fans not to bother coming if they’re not going to happy clap, and seeming to suggest fans should be thrown out… That’s not how it works. There has always been booing and shouting, since before Butler was even born.

November 23, 2025 at 3:50 pm #313553Butler needs to get a grip of this. Most fans back him and are happy with how he got us promoted and an overall decent season so far. Most aren’t blaming him or player effort for our recent slump.
As long as it isn’t abusive, negative comments are expected, even if some are overly negative at times. But that’s the price for free speech. People should temper themselves if they can, but they shouldn’t be forced to. Gesticulating for fans to go for asinine comments is ridiculous and makes him look bad. It’s the fans’ club as well, even if some might be negative. It doesn’t bode well if things really go awry.
This all said, I am glad he is the manager over an overrated lower non-league manager who tried and failed with a bigger budget. He achieved more with less.
November 23, 2025 at 3:56 pm #313554I suspect AB is as frustrated as the rest of us, and the last thing he needs is the Self-Righteous Brothers in the stands shouting “Oy, Butler, NO!”
We’ve all been there haven’t we? Do 99 things right and one wrong and someone will give you earache.
Luckily for him we’re no longer the sacking club we once were under Mr Swann.
But, yes. He really should know that it’s sadly part of life in 2025.
November 23, 2025 at 4:03 pm #313555It’s the fans’ club as well, even if some might be negative.
This is partly my point, really. It’s more theirs than his! Being a supporter of a team is for life, whereas the manager’s job is for a short period of time in the grand scheme of things. Not saying he should accept what 64 calls ‘dogs abuse’, of course.
