Great doc on the life of John le Carre on Apple TV. Fans of the novelist, artists, writers, musicians might enjoy it. Mainly him in later life being interviewed (interviewer doesn’t impose) about his life. Very philosophical-fascinating insight. Gets to the heart of the matter of espionage, it’s appeal, it’s requirements and the need in some for deceit, for good or bad causes.
I will comment, as it is probably a good idea to have a lighter conversation topic. I am less familiar with le Carre. Would you like to expand on your thoughts and knowledge of him, and the documentary itself to help this ignoramus? :-)
I’d recommend becoming familiar with his wealth of works, particularly the Smiley novels and his later ones, not long before he died. Also, the TV adaptations of T,T,S,S and Smiley’s People, plus The Spy Who Came in from the Cold 60s movie. Saying that, my other half hasn’t read any, but like many has seen the films and modern TV adaptations. She really enjoyed The Pigeon Tunnel. I don’t really want to review it more than that. People can discover for themselves. It was more a recommendation.
