While Connor Smith has yet to play at his best, Pat Jones has hit the ground running. He is a great recruit, given that the team will need an overhaul during the summer who in the NL or NLN/S has caught your eye? Who has the “Jones Factor” and could do a great job for us next year. Time is running out this season for the club to scout any suggestions. Please don’t cause any diversions by including Declan Howe ( or any other Scunny player out on loan), I’m sure Dec will be back with us for the play offs!
March 18, 2026 at 5:04 pm #317704How many players constitutes an ‘overhaul’ Phil? 5? 7? 10?
March 18, 2026 at 5:05 pm #317705Could Louis Jones make the step up to L2? I’m saying possibly.
March 18, 2026 at 6:07 pm #317709`I think Jones the keeper has looked pretty decent in the games I’ve seen him play and wasn’t he on Donny’s books in league one? If so why couldn’t he hack league two?

I think 7 – 2 mobile CB’s are needed and hopefully 1 of them a leader/organiser. The other 5 should be easy to find can think of 4 already.

March 18, 2026 at 7:31 pm #317712Jones would be good as number two learning off experienced keeper which should be a priority followed by centre backs and creative midfielder

I assume Ewing is leaving. It’s a key position. Anyone in mind to replace him?
March 19, 2026 at 9:03 am #317735If Butler says Maison Campbell is his number 1 keeper then Jones will be his number 2, and i am sorry but i think most fans will have more confidence in Jones and Rory Mahady than Maison Campbell.
Can we not get Rory Watson back, once York get promoted ?March 19, 2026 at 10:13 am #317737Not a bad idea but we should be aiming for a notch better.

March 19, 2026 at 12:53 pm #317740The “ Jones Factor” applies to both Jones, players brought in this season that have improved the squad. What I’m asking the Forum is “What other gems lurk in the NL or NLN/S that we could afford to sign and would improve our team?”. I agree that we probably need to sign 7 or so players for the overhaul. One of them could be Westbrooke, as he is out of contract at Donny this summer. Here is your chance to Name those players for other clubs who you have seen and thought,”they could do a great job for us” I hope to see a lot of defenders among your nominations!

March 19, 2026 at 1:44 pm #317742I rate Josh Hmami now at Halifax, wanted him last summer. For a defender how about Maxi back?
March 19, 2026 at 1:51 pm #317743I’ll take a look at Donny Rovers current squad and get back to you

March 19, 2026 at 2:20 pm #317744My only concern with Westbrooke at the minute is the volume of poor or misplaced passing. Just needs to tighten up a bit, aside from that would be a solid league two squad player
March 19, 2026 at 3:49 pm #317745If we could “attract” Ross Fitzsimons when we were a NL(N) club then surely we can get similar or better as a top six NL outfit?

March 19, 2026 at 4:39 pm #317747We could if we take the unaffordable wages route.

March 19, 2026 at 5:14 pm #317748Agree with Ironawe that Westbrooke has gone off the boil a bit recently.
A bit like Ewing did a little bit earlier. Even the ever reliable Rowley has looked a bit jaded of late.
Not questioning the effort of any of the midfield 3 but they have played a lot of games.
We are obviously short on options apart from left wingers so appreciate it’s difficult to give them a break but it might be an idea to rotate them through a couple of games rest each while Beestin is fit and looking sharp.
If we do make the playoffs we need our midfield at its sharpest to stand any kind of chance.2 users thanked author for this post.

March 19, 2026 at 7:40 pm #317750Was on the bench for Leamington on Tuesday. Rested or not pulling up any trees?
Also spotted that Joey Dawson is yet to start a game for Buxton.

You have to be fit to start games, I think Joey has struggled in that department since coming back to us, reckon his two serious knee injuries have done for him in the professional game, he will be gone come summer, great shame he was some prospect as a young player.

The CBs covering each other though innit?Jones aiming for more clean sheets as the Iron secure six points from two away trips
