Any news on the nature, timing and timescale of the work? I know the pitch was available for hire until yesterday, so assume work starts any day? For me the ambition and success of this is crucial and every bit as important as player retention and recruitment. It would be good to get an update from the club amidst the plug for the festival of ‘90s also rans.
May 6, 2026 at 3:21 pm #320487Was down at the ground yesterday just after the match being played had finished, 8-8 apparently between John leggot college and some Hull team or so I was told by a guy in the car park, who also said pitch renovations were starting today but again that was just his version of events. Not much defending taken into consideration for that match though 😂
May 6, 2026 at 3:48 pm #320491It was 2 JLC teams playing, looks like a pay back for them letting us use their 3G pitch for training.
I’ll scratch your back you scratch mine working at its best for both parties especially the young lads for the experience, it’s things like that that go along way.
Still think they’re games till the end of the week to play before pitch renovation.
Still nearly 3 weeks earlier start than last year.
No fest this year, bummer.May 6, 2026 at 4:51 pm #320493Being proactive with fan updates is not something SUFC has down as a priority unless of course they need donations sponsors or the good old SOS rally cry for local businesses.
Be very interesting few weeks regarding the pitch and how its being funded let along all the ins n outs staff wise.

May 6, 2026 at 6:53 pm #320497Any updates on the pitch maintenance fundraising activities?
Seems to be very much a lack of activity on the Go Fund Me page. Nothing in over a month on there and haven’t seen any updates elsewhere
May 6, 2026 at 8:51 pm #320499Communication with the fans does seem to have slowed somewhat !

May 6, 2026 at 9:04 pm #320500Not for the want of asking, asked Robiron twice, makes you suspicious when only one of the 3 party’s taking money have declared any funding.

May 7, 2026 at 6:33 pm #320530I believe work started today. No update from the club (I have asked), though there has been another plug for the pitch squares fundraiser.
Bruers will be keen to hear that the club is “looking for short stories — no longer than one A4 page — starring the legendary Scunny Bunny and Hunny Bunny.”
May 7, 2026 at 8:44 pm #320533Need to be KS1 or KS2 level. Might rule one or two out on here.
May 8, 2026 at 11:46 am #320540Changing the shirt number to 69?
May 8, 2026 at 11:53 am #320541Club have just posted on FB it started this week, Bru asking the important questions as usual
May 8, 2026 at 12:37 pm #320542FFS. Scunny Bunny is the absolute epitome of our tinpotness. Someone clearly just went with the first noun they could think of that rhymed with scunny, and then its stuck for 30 years, despite having 0 association with the town. My preference would be a giant oversized lump of iron ore that we stick a couple of googly eyes on, with Jerry pushing it around in barrow prior to kick off. Call him Iron Oreson or something.

That or a grey pig formed of low quality iron – Piggy Pig Iron or something. If you’re reading Michelle, drop me a DM.1 user thanked author for this post.

Should have gone with a large tongue, the Scunnylingus.

I always thought the Iron Lion would be good.
But don’t forget Scunny Bunny decking Mike Bassett live on TV.May 8, 2026 at 10:52 pm #320572May 9, 2026 at 12:11 pm #320585I have absolutely zero confidence in this. Are they not just repeating the pitch seeding process of the last couple of seasons, but a mere couple of weeks earlier?
May 9, 2026 at 12:15 pm #320586Looks like we have engaged Premier Turfing, who seem to be an experienced and reputable outfielder. I assume we didn’t use them last year?
May 9, 2026 at 12:28 pm #320587Wasn’t the initial seeding OK but the aftercare package lacking?

May 9, 2026 at 1:03 pm #320590Hang on haven’t we secured a £750,000 efl grant for pitch improvements? If we can’t come up with something decent after that investment we are totally clueless when it comes to getting a decent surface in place for August
May 9, 2026 at 1:27 pm #320591If we have secured a grant, that would be great news. Where has this been announced?

May 9, 2026 at 1:46 pm #320593I believe someone said it was announced at the AGM. Would still mean the club would need to fund another £250,000 though.
At that kind of money surely an hybrid pitch like Rochdale would be the better option.May 9, 2026 at 2:24 pm #320594So we did everything correct last season but forgot to water it? Use to be the case the turf around Scunny was best in the land, Old Trafford use to use it (may still well do).
Could we not find a sponsor for the watering can?1 user thanked author for this post.

Yes. They penny pinched and royally screwed up. Harness said in a statement recently that we’re spending money on updating irrigation system to improve the playing surface.
Also the upkeep of the ground is to be brought back in house again and we’re to employ a dedicated groundsman to tend to the pitch.
Appears they’ve learnt their lesson.
Better suppliers of turf being used. Proper pitch maintainence brought in house. Irrigation system update.
If we did get that grant, which seems to be the case…it appears it’s going to be spent wisely.
I can’t be doing with the pitch we’ve had the season just gone. Absolute disgrace at times. That was more fit for animals than it was football.

Do I have to repeat my lecture of some years back on the history of rabbit warrens in the district?
