Yes. I’d wondered if George is still on the go. He used to give me lifts to games when I was a mere sprog.

May 9, 2025 at 10:16 am #304244I’d agree with that but only if Lionel Perez was before your time.

May 9, 2025 at 10:45 am #304247George Thompson?
May 9, 2025 at 11:48 am #304249Not that far!!
May 9, 2025 at 12:27 pm #304252Just kidding:)
May 9, 2025 at 12:29 pm #304253As far as goalies are concerned, Ray Clemence, for the short time he played for us, takes some beating.
I remember one opposing forward describing him as “Uncanny.” With the defence we had at the time he needed to be.May 9, 2025 at 12:31 pm #304254Whatever happened to him eh?
May 9, 2025 at 12:51 pm #304255Unpopular opinion but I always thought Murphy was a tad overrated. There was a period where punching balls into his own net was quite a regular occurrence.
Similarly I thought Byrne was over rated
Brilliant on loan
Scored an important goal
Then the weakest in the back four. Mirf for all his injuries for example far superiorMay 9, 2025 at 2:21 pm #304258100% agreed – Byrne was a great trier, and a clubman, which I feel masked his actual ability. I was always nervous as soon as he came up against any wingers with pace or half a trick. Remember Coppinger having him on toast every time he moved over to Byrne’s side. TBF he tried to compensate by being fittest and most professional player in the team.

“Ay ay ay ay,
Clemence is better than Yashin.
Barton is better than Eusebio.
And ******** are in for a thrashing.”Sung to the tune of Cielito Lindo.
(Not sure about Barton though.)
May 9, 2025 at 2:39 pm #304261Geoff Barnard & Rod Fletcher I remember.
May 9, 2025 at 2:53 pm #304266Legend singular.Cant people just follow a simple instruction?

Reckon David Sloan might have given Eusebio a run for his money IA , lol

Yep, at fault for 4 goals at Wembley that season. Dived over the ball for Luton’s 2nd and rushed out like a madman for their winner. Then should have saved both against Millwall…the 2nd in particular!
May 9, 2025 at 9:33 pm #304291Aye Joe was shite in that penalty shootout against MK Dons in the semi final, absolute disgrace.
May 9, 2025 at 11:53 pm #304293Shout out to big Mike Czuczman. Legend surely for being the first name on the team sheet week in week out, but barely anyone knew how to pronounce his surname correctly? Solid, gritty, with a healthy head of hair.
May 10, 2025 at 12:18 am #304294Stuart Pilling will always be a legend to me for the brace away at Peterborough United c.1980. both goals second half at the far end. Barely visible from our pathetic but loyal gathering but we could see they’d gone in. Unexpected euphoric times in an otherwise drab away day (night) existence. Long live the sparse Holloways coach experience.
May 10, 2025 at 8:17 am #304297Pronounced ‘Churchman’ when mentioned on the radio.
May 10, 2025 at 9:37 am #304306Indeed. Though a group of us used to pronounce it ‘Shuzman’. Oh dear.
May 10, 2025 at 4:59 pm #304325Paul Hayes
May 10, 2025 at 5:01 pm #304326Honourable mention for Gary Thompson. Great player, hampered by in injuries
May 10, 2025 at 5:48 pm #304327Surprised Cleveland hasn’t fought his way in here.

Quality player
May 10, 2025 at 9:56 pm #304333Has to be Barrie for me. It’s his birthday on the 19th. He was electric. A mention too for Terry Heath, what a player he was. UTWI

Yep, Thompson was particularly incredible during the second half of our Championship survival season. Scored some absolute beauties and really important goals.
