Butler will do it,I certainly thought Whitehall looked a better player with someone to play to,some good balls on to runners once we changed tack.I assume he’s learned something about his players and may be more flexible

Said this to my mate, Whitehall’s play with his feet in the final third is great as long as there’s a runner and a short pass. Feel as though default setting is to lump it to him and i’m not sure his target man play is that great at this level against the better teams. Found Howe and Roberts with regularity once Dec came on and they started making runs through the middle.

I’ve being saying since pre-season; Dan & Dec down the throats of their centre half’s in a 4-4-2.
Roberts wide right, two solid centre mids who can pass and a n other wide left.

Well AB gave it a go again Saturday ( he has occasionally used 4-4-2 at times this season, mainly mid game ) both Whitehall and Dec have goals in them so why not start games with that system, it might just bear fruit and fire us to playoff promotion.

The only problem with that was when Howe came on there was a noticeable gap in the centre of the park as he was playing more as a second striker. As long as we don’t get over run in midfield and start playing more hoof ball…

I think you have identified the problem Deereyme, Midfield. Butler has consistently played a 3 or a 5, thereby protecting a weak back 4 and GK. if we can improve our defence over the summer and sign a decent defensive centre midfield who can pass then I would say 442 should be our preferred option with 2 strikers.

If we play 4-4-2 with a defensive CM and (say) Roberts & Jones it leaves too much work fot the other CM IMO. You’d really need to play a diamond which wouldn’t play to the strengths of our genuine wide men.

Hoof ball will not work for long in Div 2 that is a fact neither will over elaboration when passing. Need to be faster, cleaner and into space for the runner.

Looking like whatever league 2 Centre Backs are priority – based on all the comments from fans. And I said before – at home 442 works for us. We have the wingers [ Andy does sound keen about Hurst should DRFC release him].

If he’d be a back up for Roberts, I understand that. I’d like to see Westbrook stay too.
