Please don’t tar all the fanbase with AWG’s brush.

November 12, 2024 at 9:51 pm #293754If the board wanted to freshen up player recruitment, fine, but Lee deserved a better statement than that.

Yes, going out and supposedly identifying players which have proved to not be very good. I like Turnbull, but he’s been living off his past exploits for far too long now.
Acting as Hilton’s henchman wasn’t great either, but he was always here when we needed him so hope he’s ok when it comes to finding further employment. I’m sure another team will employ him in one position or another.
November 13, 2024 at 1:10 am #293760We’re currently trying to polish turds.
We are where we are.November 13, 2024 at 6:27 am #293766Expensive job for someone responsible for recruitment that has seen us assemble an unbalanced squad and not a single summer signing has made us better so far. Some may do so over time.
I also wondered why he was always available to do commentary on Humberside last year rather than watching other matches to scout potential new players or future opponents.November 13, 2024 at 9:09 am #293768I happen to know that one former manager was hugely unimpressed with his record for finding players.
November 13, 2024 at 9:33 am #293771Does that suggest his recommendations were given preference over managers choices?

That’s harsh: I’m Not under any impression he acted as Hilton’s henchman unless you can clarify? He released one badly worded statement after the protests whilst trying to walk a tightrope, not something I’ll chose to beat him with when by all accounts he did a fine job during our darkest hour.
Unless there’s been a gross misconduct we all aren’t privy too, then a more thorough statement would have been appropriate.
In footballing terms, our recruitment has been poor for years now, I don’t think a fresh approach will do any harm.
November 13, 2024 at 10:32 am #293774Very short memories a lot of you have, wasn’t Hiltons henchman he was Swannys, it was during the protests that he threatened fans with a knock on the door from police after the protest in the centre circle.not the police doing the threatening but Turnbull.
So yes I will rejoice in Turnbull losing his job, anyone threatening one of us for in our eyes was a legitimate protest, in which more of us should have helped by the way.
Look in that mirror 64 if you want to see a toxic fan, it was Swanny you berated Dean, Hilton, Whitehall last season and you haven’t given over this season either with him think Clunan and Fitz might be in there as well. And the thing is 64 you don’t want Whitehall to do well or we would have seen some praise by now. No matter my dislikes of the managers or certain players i Always want them to do well in every game im not sat at home wanting certain players to fail.
Bit ironic you naming me when I only started posting on Bru because of what I called scunny fans the worst or should we say toxic lol.November 13, 2024 at 11:07 am #293779Where has this “Turnbull was a Hilton mouthpiece” come from? He made that poor statement about fan protests under Swann, but I have some sympathy given the circumstances. There was a lot of worry over the future of the club and Swann would have pressured him.
Under Hilton he was very quiet, and I suspect not keen on what was being done to the club by that wrecker. However, from what has been said on podcasts since it was clear that himself, Michelle and Roj worked their socks off to sort out the mess left by Hilton. For that alone he deserves thanks and respect, alongside many years of loyal work.

November 13, 2024 at 11:39 am #293780Well, for whatever reason he has had his marching orders, not dealt with ideally, more important is our slide down the table and no new players but apparently the same formation going to be trotted out.
Do we have any idea if there are any plans for new players or recovering injury prone players to join us?November 13, 2024 at 12:28 pm #293784Turnbull was in football matters

One man’s walking a tightrope is another man’s hedging his bets.
November 13, 2024 at 12:30 pm #293785just because his contract was terminated it doesn’t mean he was booted out, he may have been or it might mean he has a new job and that is why we got a new CEO, I actually have no idea, but strange they bring a new CEO in before terminating his contract

The wording would have been “contract terminated by mutual consent”. He’s clearly been kicked out. The statement’s sign off of ‘the door is always open for him to visit us at any point’ is the same wording used about Simon Elliott. It’s a polite way of saying ‘Get lost but don’t be bitter, football’s a harsh and sometimes nasty business and these things happen’…

November 13, 2024 at 7:41 pm #293810Swann’s mouthpiece then , rather than Hilton’s henchman, either way he came across as an absolute arse hole and his record of finding players for the last however many seasons has been incredibly poor = The termination of his contract.
I can’t say I’m surprised.
November 14, 2024 at 12:48 pm #293825Rainy season is over , lovely cool foggy mornings so had a couple of days away in the mountains .. no phone no contact with my normal working life so imagine my surprise .. to read LT has been sacked.
Without picking through the finer details my take on it is…..
IMO
No doubting with LT love and passion for the club.
In recent years hes probably got a little full of his self importance so when the new CEO came in whose job it is to operate the company as fiscally as possible it would appear LT was first on the list and there may be more ??
LT signings record has been piss poor and he has been stealing a wage for too long so i guess i agree with him getting the boot …It could have been worded a tad better but hey ho.
ALSO WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS ANNOUNCEMENT OF A NEW FORWARD ATTACK MINDED PLAYER .. ????
November 14, 2024 at 2:10 pm #293829According to SST we’re waiting on international clearance to come through on Luke Williams and Mark Beck “An old throwback Steve Torpey Type Battering Ram” is proving to be a tad difficult to get over the line as he’s currently out on loan from his parent club.
We’ll have to not only convince him to drop down a level, but we’ll have to either take his current loan deal over or get him and his parent club to cancel said loan deal and then take him on a perm contract till end of the season.
Beck’s contract runs out end of this season. If this is to come off, it’s going to be prove difficult to get over the line. We could do with somebody like Beck and a midfield destroyer.
November 14, 2024 at 2:17 pm #293831At Gateshead Mr Beck not too prolific 15 games 1 goal. Previous clubs average goal return, only Darlington showing a near 1 goal for each 2 games.
But tall – so 442 or 433 more a possibility with 2 tall fwds could indicate more wing play.
November 14, 2024 at 3:32 pm #293836I think the announcement could have been improved, if you consider the following:
“Scunthrope United can confirm” – implies the Club is being reactive rather than having a joint statement prepared. This decision deserved a prepared announcement.
“had his Contract with the club terminated” – is that what happens for breaking rules or not meeting standards etc. However “the door is always open for him to visit” to that didnt happen. So did it really need to be stated that his contract was terminated. I think you can part ways due to a reorganisation and infer, or state, that in a more respectful way.
“The 57 year old” – Is it really appropriate to include his age? Did the Club detail Matt Roberts’s age when announcing him as the new CEO. While both men’s ages can be found on the internet but it just isn’t a factor that should have been inlcuded on an announcement.
While it’s good that the announcment recognises the critical roles he played, I do think a bit more thought and empathy should have been shown in the preperation of this announcement.
November 14, 2024 at 3:46 pm #293839I acknowledge I misread the half century of appearances and so that comment isn’t fair.
November 14, 2024 at 3:59 pm #293840I was happily keeping my head down on here and just suffering going to the actual games like in the old days, but SUFC can’t seem to get through a couple of months without some sort of drama.
The statement about Turnbull is very poor, it does suggest he’s been sacked and leaves a vacuum for everyone to wonder why and what has happened.
If Turnbull has done something that they’ve deemed gross misconduct then tell us, it doesn’t have to be detailed just say they been made aware of something or an incident has happened and they’ve sacked him.
If they aren’t happy with his player recruitment or something football related then say that.
It’s getting like amateur hour, everything is guess work for the average supporter, from no post match interview from the club with Butler after the Buxton game (luckily radio Jumbleside got an explanation from him), to that badly worded statement about Turnbull and no mention from the club about Luke Williams training here for 6 weeks despite it apparently being common knowledge.1 user thanked author for this post.
November 14, 2024 at 5:49 pm #293847This has James Moody’s lack of media savvy all over it .

Can you elaborate ?
November 14, 2024 at 7:34 pm #293853So you’ll agree that Moody needs to go then 64, he joined as media assistant in 2013 if he ain’t got the savvy by now he never will.
Made plenty of gaffs the playoffs ticket bollocks, the friendly debacle with Bradford, and this one according to you.
Myself I thought it was bang on, no fluff just his contract had been terminated strong enough to show the board weren’t happy with him for whatever reason.
Goes without saying that most want to know why but has I’ve been reminded plenty of times they’re just being professional.
And not only that it gives everyone license to come up with their hearsay. Hopefully I’ll give my version after Saturday’s game.November 15, 2024 at 8:34 am #293865Used to Ref at the academies 9s to 16s games before he became MA.
