The Keir Starmer chant is pretty widespread now; Sky have had to go silent when it’s sung at the darts.

Must admit it was disheartening hearing it at a Scunny game, along with the pro- farage chants. The Tommy Robinson chant was sung by 20-30 young lads behind us, there was an angry response from half a dozen or so Scunny fans and it quickly stopped. I asked a young lad behind us why he was singing it and he didn’t have a clue, seemed embarrassed when confronted about it.

sad state of affairs and hopefully that shite can be self policed.

So, because YOU and the clown who was so upset by it that he felt the need to start threads on the subject insist it should be banned and no doubt think people who feel the need to chant should be silenced by the likes of you pair.
You do realise that is why the chants are sung, because of people like YOU!

I can think of lots of chants fans use to shout and sing pre-1984.

By the way,Saleiron,I can think of a few chants ( if they had been shouted) you wouldn’t have started a thread to comment on.

People have the right to air dissatisfaction with divisive chants that have nothing to do with football and would alienate part of the fanbase. As long as they aren’t getting stewards to escort fans away for these chants, I don’t think it is censorious. Fans can still ignore these calls to shut up.

It was sung by young lads who didn’t have a clue what they were on about, I don’t want to hear any political shite at a Scunny game regardless of the politics involved. Also, where have I called for it to be banned? I’d prefer stuff like that to be policed on the terraces as it seemed to be at Hartlepool.

Also if you do want to sing it, don’t YOU be upset if people are then going to be confronted.

I can imagine there’d have been a lot of complaints from some supporters had there been a slew of ‘oh, Jeremy Corbyn’ chants a few years back. It would probably have been around ‘keep politics off the terraces’. Seems acceptable to some in this case though. Who’d of thunk it?

Nobody suggests the chant should be banned. Try re-reading my post. 🤡

At the games yes Deerey keep it out, especially on electronic bill boards like at FGR.
I thought the chant was the ‘no surrender to the IRA’ one which as always been there.

Elliott Morley(remember him?) came on the pitch before a game and someone shouted **** *** Morley you ****.
    Does Dakin go to games?
HMC only showed interest when the club was going to the wall.

That sectarian chant is just as offensive and it needs calling out as well.

How come over the years you have been on here, saleiron, you have never posted comments about adolescent schoolyard “ humour”etc at football matches or commented on non-football about Glastonbury, and other mass gatherings with offensive “ from the rivers to the sea” chants and the like? You seem to have your own personal agenda, it seems.

What a strange question. This is a Scunthorpe United message board and this is the one for footballing matters, yes? I commented on some fans’ chants at a Scunthorpe match. Do I need anymore justification for my post?

To me chants nowadays are rather tame to what they were when I first started going in the late 60s.
Many were meant to offend so what!

I’m guessing he’s banned from the Tavern or he’s skint, like the trio of xxx, J Charles and Mablethorpe

Maybe so, but the problem here for me is the political nature that alienates others among our own fanbase. That is what causes division. If people are going to chant for divisive figures, they should expect people to react negatively to those chants.

I assume you’re okay with sectarian chants as well as those associated with openly racist groups? I can normally avoid them by staying away from TR and and BF rallies, but I don’t expect to hear them watching my team.

I started going in the early ‘70s and some chants were horrific. Thankfully, most people have moved on.
