No poll Deerey, But After the Chester game Butler’s interview said if we’re aiming for promotion we need to put some performances in, so if you count a game and a half as performances in the last 4 Iron414 is more near the mark with us suggested points tally.
November 4, 2024 at 9:21 pm #292975There was a post further up regarding high earners at the club which are biting into the budget. Evans for instance could easily be moved on for two cheaper players and he wouldn’t be too much of a miss.
Evans signed a new 2 year deal in June so his wage will be within the new budget constraints surely.
No doubt it fit with the budget, hence why he signed an extension, but we had a set amount to spend and if we have a sizeable budget I bet he takes a fair wedge of that up. The same goes with Denton & Whitehall.
I bet Evans, Denton and Whitehall’s wages will cover 5 players at this level.

More of the same, really: As much as the manager and his coaches can do, some of Jimmy’s Mercanaries can turn up, loaf around and still get paid because nobody else can afford to or want to take them. Sad state of affairs but there we are!
And there lies a problem.
Damn those overpaid Jimmy & Hilton signings; Cal Robert’s, Danny Whitehall and Ross Fitz. Question though, Where in the league do you think we would be sitting without them? I despise ‘sir-four-names’ as much as the next chap, but there’s no hiding from the reality that the players signed during his tenure are carrying the team this season. When they depart this summer there will need to be a serious rethink in the recruitment dept, as the dynamic duo Turnbull and Butler, couldn’t spot a great white in a fish pond.
Very selective.. Have you got some Oversized Men’s Tracksuits you want to sell me?
The Mask is off!
November 5, 2024 at 10:23 am #292992414 must be a Cod Head, seeing how desperate he/she is to see SUFC fail. Are we not still top? Have we not just won a game 6-chuffing-0 in the league?
No one is pretending everything is perfect, only a fool would do that, but after years of wading through slurry we are finally in a good place and the team is doing well on the pitch. If it all goes to cock, whinge away at the end, but imagine that this season ends with our first promotion in over a decade and all you’ve done all season is moan, grumble, complain, and demand the manager is sacked?
November 5, 2024 at 10:29 am #292994You say “given away a 9 point lead”.
Does he not deserve credit for getting that 9 point lead in the first place?
Yep! He got us a 9 point lead before the other managers sussed him out.
So those wise old heads like Johnson & Morley are able to bring their team of amateurs to AAGP and do a job on us.
Every fan wants managerial continuity but they want promotions and trophies too.
Prime example in the PL – Man Utd under Fergie compared to Man Utd since Fergie. All of those fans hoping the next appointment will be the right one. Isn’t that what we’ve been waiting for since Sir Nigel left?

November 5, 2024 at 10:43 am #292996It took several years for Fergie to win a thing at Man Utd. It’s a good job they didn’t listen to RedDevil414 demanding he should be sacked in December 1986 because he’s a simpleton incapable of learning anything* and won’t change his playing style through arrogance.
*Granted, Fergie had pedigree in the Scottish league at this point, but RedDevil414 would be reminding those arguing this by saying there’s a world of difference between the English and Scottish leagues.
November 5, 2024 at 10:56 am #292997The important thing is Ferrite if people stop enjoying the experience then it’s the club and football clubs in general that loses out in the long run and fans will just stop going.

November 5, 2024 at 11:36 am #293000How many fans will stop going? Do you think they’ll swap allegiance and go elsewhere? Or just stop watching live local football?
November 5, 2024 at 12:46 pm #293001November 5, 2024 at 12:57 pm #293002Tbf Siderite, as 414 was quick to remind me, it was all my fault bringing ‘Simpleton’ in to the forum as an example of the pretty nasty stuff some supporters were saying about Butler on X. But let’s blame the messenger! Apparently it’s also wrong to celebrate a big victory that i’ve watched and not have much to say about a match I didn’t watch. Incredible

November 5, 2024 at 1:06 pm #293004I know several people that stopped going due to Covid and haven’t returned or gone elsewhere. What’s currently on offer won’t tempt them back but entertainment (preferably with success) might do.
Would they compromise and settle for a decent pie at half time?
November 5, 2024 at 1:09 pm #293005Hope this isn’t leading to the ‘strippers’ chat again…
November 5, 2024 at 1:18 pm #293006As long as it isn’t Magic Mike.

Fitzsimmons conceded a penalty and flapped around last night
Clunan substandard again
Kelly on the bench
Whitehall and Evans injuredYes, we have much to be Greatful for those Visionary Signings in Summer 2023.
November 6, 2024 at 9:19 am #293115Whatever my feelings, three more performances in November like last night and AB is gonna be in serious trouble.
Check the gate carefully on Saturday and try to interpret what the fans are doing.
How far short of 4,400?
Also, if a fair few season ticket holders are missing – it means they aren’t spending.
Inertia is no option. Some kind of action or other by the board will be unavoidable.November 6, 2024 at 10:11 am #293121The only blame for Whitehalls injury is Butler’s leaving him on so long against farsley why risk your best asset when the game was won.

I’m afraid you’ve lost me there CMC but you seem rather pleased with yourself so I won’t burst your bubble. We have to take pleasure where we can as Iron fans, as watching the team brings very little enjoyment at the moment.
Unmasking you say? You sound like our resident super-mod. Perhaps you could team up like a pair of Miss Marples to tackle some unsolved mysteries?
I’ll set you on your first one; what had our board been smoking when they decided to extend the contract of a rookie manager only 7 games into the season? And whatever it was, can I have some to get me through the next home game at GP?

November 6, 2024 at 4:14 pm #293157And yet, 414, it’s been insinuated that you are Mr Dave, Simon, a Cod, or someone who sells oversized tracksuits by different members of this forum. No one is happy with current performances or results, but what do you think the number of insinuations say about you and your perceived intentions? A mere observation, no ‘toxicity’ here. Just curious. What do you want from this given Butler isn’t going anywhere and Butterfield and Ogle aren’t coming back?

Given I’ve seen similar accusations levelled at a couple of other posters too, I think it probably says that there’s a handful of paranoid members that would rather believe WHAM is back, than face the reality that we’ve; appointed the wrong manager, had an abysmal summer transfer window and have an increasingly slim chance of promotion. In any case I thought ‘doxxing’ was against the rules? Surely being super-mod I needn’t remind you?

Good question, as at this stage I think even a Farsley-esq result would paper the cracks again. So I suppose I’m hoping our CEO is an expert in contract law and we can wrangle our way out of the extension with minimal damage and rescue the season with an experienced head at the helm.
But for Pete sake lighten up Deerey. The football is depressing enough without you dampening the mood after a little light hearted fun. Humour, for some of us takes the edge off the rather sorry state of affairs on the pitch, after all isn’t it better to laugh than cry!
P.S must have missed the news that big Dave Hilton has moved into the sports apparel sector.
November 6, 2024 at 8:11 pm #293166I wouldn’t say Deerey alone needs to lighten up. Your posts have been dreary throughout, and while some of the criticism is with merit, it’s overwhelmingly bleak and often OTT. Like Eeyore. I don’t mean to be nasty, just giving my opinion since the overall tone has been dour from your first post and is a bit sapping.
Obviously I am a big boy, so can deal with it and don’t expect you to have to take this into any consideration. Just an opinion given you are saying others should lighten up. Honestly, no hard feelings meant in this post.
November 6, 2024 at 8:38 pm #293174None taken. I can only comment on what I see and admittedly I’ve been disappointed so far this season so have posted as such. I didn’t (don’t) think Butler was the right appointment, didn’t like the off-loading of our best players and wasn’t very enthused by any of the new signings, though I did think Carlton was a coup (see… I’m not right about everything!). And whilst I’ve called it as I’ve seen it; with a fair amount of dissatisfaction on both the recruitment and on field performances, I do try and stay fairly jovial about it all (though accept that maybe isn’t always conveyed in typed form). Isn’t it important to be able to laugh at ourselves? If we don’t the cods certainly will!
