A match report of last nights ‘mauling’
They’d won their previous 3 games, Wealdstone having lost their previous 3 and failing to score in the process.
What a turnaround!

April 1, 2026 at 9:50 am #318735New manager by Friday?
April 1, 2026 at 4:13 pm #318737Current manager is a mate of AB’s and a former Iron player but he will be under a bit of scrutiny after last nights result, just one of those games maybe, it happens.

April 1, 2026 at 4:58 pm #318739We got beat by Sutton the game after they lost 5-0
So taking nothing for granted Friday however 4-1 Scunny1 user thanked author for this post.
April 1, 2026 at 5:53 pm #318748You have got to have some sympathy for the Monkey Hangers.
They are at the stage where they really need to win every game and hope for a stumble from Southend.
After us they have Rochdale, Boreham Wood, Forest Green and Southend to play before getting a bit of respite on the last day away at Boston.
April 2, 2026 at 2:54 pm #318822Scun 2-1 Pool
April 2, 2026 at 3:13 pm #318825Tricky one to call this
Scunny may be complacent as all be in the playoffs mathematically and also beware the rebound effect of them getting battered 7-0 last time out.
im going 1-1
Hopefully a decent crowd being Good Friday Bank holidayApril 3, 2026 at 10:11 am #318858My guess is 3-0 Iron.
They’ll hold out 0-0 into the second half but we’ll be too strong in the end.April 3, 2026 at 2:57 pm #318877Hate Rowley being on the bench. The midfield looked lost when he was injured.
April 3, 2026 at 5:10 pm #318884Phew. Escaped with a point. Terrific.
Games like that – how many have we lost over the years?
They hit our bar at the death.
I’ll settle!April 3, 2026 at 5:23 pm #318885Playoffs guaranteed!
April 3, 2026 at 5:40 pm #318886Did Roberts leave his shooting boots at home? Must have had 10-12 chances to shoot but passed instead, surely one would have gone in.

April 3, 2026 at 5:41 pm #3188871 win in last 7 home games is a worry, need to find our winning ways if we have a home tie in playoffs. Would still prefer if we were away.
How Hartlepool missed that sitter at the end is a mystery
April 3, 2026 at 6:02 pm #318888We can’t score. Our goal difference isn massively lower than any other of the top teams.
April 3, 2026 at 6:07 pm #318889We can score just haven’t defended well. 77 goals up to now 1 more goal then last year.
April 3, 2026 at 6:07 pm #318890Our goals scored record is middling among the playoff teams. The issue is we have the most goals conceded of the top 7.
April 3, 2026 at 6:27 pm #318891Hartlepool just came to defend, that must be the deepest a team has played at the AA this season, they were dull and uninspiring but they grabbed a point which after a 7-0 thumping last time out will definitely suit them. It would have been a travesty if they had pinched all three points at the death because they did not deserve to IMO. To qualify for the playoffs with four games left is a wonderful achievement by AB and his players after promotion last season so that is the positive we take tonight from this game but like cass says we should be shooting more instead of trying to walk the ball into the net.

April 3, 2026 at 6:31 pm #318892Was that you Bhuna who got kicked out for having words with Butler.
April 3, 2026 at 7:14 pm #318897I don’t remember Roberts having such a poor game and how Whitehall remained on the pitch I am not sure
April 3, 2026 at 7:31 pm #318898I don’t think Roberts was poor, far from it. I just think, on this occasion, his decision making was questionable.
April 3, 2026 at 8:02 pm #318902I said it before in terms of Boyce and I’ll say it again now for Evans, why oh why do we ask them to fulfil the role of playmaker from the back? Neither of them have a cultured pass between them, and yet AB seems to expect passes al a Moore, Beckenbauer, Hoddle or Trent when all they really have to do is win it and then pass it to a creative midfielder. Hmmm, maybe therein lies the problem?
Oh and don’t get me going about the lack of creativity in midfield. We had one and took him off!
Alas Smith for Jones …………….
April 3, 2026 at 8:23 pm #318903Maybe I’m turning into a clapper but I enjoyed that game today. Pat Jones is some player. We did absolutely everything but score.
They nearly mugged us at the end with that shot off the bar, and Evans volleyed a back pass at Jones for some insane reason !April 3, 2026 at 11:41 pm #318906Ridiculous decision to take Beestin off. We have 2 players with enough close control to work an opening against a packed defence. Roberts was having an off day and we take the other one off.
He had a bit of a tantrum when he was hooked and I don’t blame him.1 user thanked author for this post.
April 4, 2026 at 8:07 am #318907I didn’t think Beestin was effecting the game as much as he has done when coming on as a sub. I wasn’t surprised to see him getting subbed tbh. Seems to play better when Rowley is on the pitch. Don’t they all.
April 4, 2026 at 9:13 am #318908I guess that’s the Dec syndrome, if you bring him on to play as a two up top with Whitehall then it’s fair to assume one of your midfield will go off but the two wide men remain. Well Roberts and Jones were the wide men second half so it was either Alfie or Olly who were going to be pulled, not an easy choice and Alfie had been doing alright IMO also. Westbrook was running the game and it would have been daft to take him off.

There’s plenty of footage of this on Gareth’s new video.
