This fairly well reasoned post got shut down on the Facebook page due the usual abusers such as Benny Bentley ruining it and being incapable of reasoned commenting.
“Some ‘constructive’ criticism, bearing in mind these 2 facts:
Lowest goals scored in top 7
Worst goal difference in top 7
Last night we played a real bottom of the league side who had their central defender taken off through injury and his replacement sent off in the first half.
Despite this and despite 90% of the possession, we could not score until injury time.
Surely AB could have changed the format and put some pace on (Carlton?)
We played pedestrian ‘walking’ football, it was like watching paint dry. No running at defenders, no taking them on, just a practice game of passing from one side of the pitch to the other. We can play better than that I am sure.
Bearing in mind my 2 facts, we had a chance to improve on both counts and didn’t take it.
Pleased for the 3 points, but how many of the 600 extra fans will come back again on Sat? The performance was uninspiring.
On a positive note we are only 4 points (5 really with goal difference) from the top! Well done for a great first half of the season, a pleasure to watch at times, great team spirit and some tremendous fans.”

January 4, 2026 at 6:24 pm #315010Butler was never going to change the format after the stick he took on his subs in the previous game/s.
Supposed to be his own man but he does seem to react to fans comments on social media even though he doesn’t use it.
Did the exact same thing last season so to me no coincidence.January 4, 2026 at 8:30 pm #315011Agree with it or not, I can see no reason for removing the post. In my view, the poster makes some good, well argued points.
January 4, 2026 at 9:05 pm #315013Good post.
I dunno about getting Carlton on for pace though, he’s fairly quick although we / he rarely apply that well in games.
January 4, 2026 at 9:27 pm #315014The post got attacked straight away when I saw it, though I do doubt whether it was benny Bentley he tends to do negative posts as well.
Fred the man who wrote the post is well into his seventies scunny fan all his life and just tells it as it is, and nothing wrong in that.
To many following the Butler line on the criticism of the team, and are to keen to put dissenters down, they do on here but being an healthy group all sides are tolerated and most posts aren’t taken down.
Shows how poor the mods on there are to remove that thread, why not just remove abusive posts.January 5, 2026 at 4:06 am #315015They’ve not removed the original post just the comments,The Benny Bentley character was one of those attacking the originator.
I personally doubt Butler making any substitutions would have helped. Our big problem is lack of quality up front. It shows most when we are well on top.We get to the edge of the box and either take another touch too many or hesitate which gives the opposition time to get behind there ball in numbers. Carlton’s basic ball control and how often he gets pegged of the ball softly lets him down, he wouldn’t have improved a thing.1 user thanked author for this post.
January 5, 2026 at 9:23 am #315016Does AB have the personnel to change it that much?
Now we’ve had a bit of a clear out and sent our unwanted players to the charity shop he may have enough pocket money spare to bring in a couple of game changers.

The postponed Sutton game has done us a favour, imho.
