One of the problematic current issues is the conflation of Iron Bru and individual users of Iron Bru.
Iron Bru is a platform, an open forum. It’s not a club, or a mindset or a set of rules – and it’s not the Matt Ellis Appreciation Society. One person’s opinion doesn’t necessarily reflect anyone else’s. It also might. Some people have very strong negative opinions on certain things, some don’t.

The lack of intelligence, coherence, spelling, appreciation of opinions, common decency, and possibly hygiene, is quite amazing when one glances at these Facebook group things.

I see a few masks have slipped today/yesterday.
This forum as a bastion of free debate and expression clearly gives them pause for thought.
I think the expression is: ‘absolutely rent free’.

The only time I have found IRON BRU argumentative is when someone tried to shut down the Forum to prevent Supporters fighting to save their club.
BRU stood firm when threatened on more than one occasion with legal action. All that was wanted was when people commented to watch the wording of their comments and that they had the facts to back up their statements. It made no difference which group they aligned with – they defended both equally.

Trying to be fair, there have been some negative comments to them previously, so I can understand them not liking Bru. It’s not always black and white and sometimes comments are disagreeable. However, that is the price we pay for being able to share an opinion. I have never understood why they cannot ignore such comments. Comments have rarely been truly defamatory and, if they have, they have been deleted.
It’s all too easy nowadays to wag fingers at everyone else and blame them for problems arising, like division. They speak as if they have been nothing but kind to others and got only vitriol in return. Yet, Maw was eager to call others parasites because they didn’t support Dodgy Dave. Yes, he said he was wrong in backing him, but has done little to curb his attacks on others and seems oblivious to how his own actions harm the reputation of himself and those around him, with his vaunted fundraising that he crowed about sometimes going to benefit his own group only and seedy messages to young women. He would lump any criticism of this with any insults, which makes it hard to take his outrage seriously, and think it’s because he doesn’t like dissent.
Positivity Dave doesn’t have that level of baggage, but is seemingly cut from the same thin skinned cloth, where any negative feedback is met with a melodramatic outburst and display for pity about how he is a victim. I thought he was harmless, but naff. However, yesterday’s outburst shows he is another one whose ‘positivity’ masks an inability to think about others. Like Maw’s ‘parasite’ remark, his ‘cancer’ comment is nasty. Even if some of the comments on here have been overly critical, that’s not how you respond, and someone who is truly not to blame for any division would not stoop to that level.
The group’s entertaining of Herbert is beyond the pale though. This is a guy who acted as a mouthpiece for the crook who nearly killed our club, went out of his way to smear critics and pushed drugs to kids. Any moral high ground they attempt to take is laughable when they treat him like the affable forum clown. He’s far more toxic than anyone on Bru.
After Hilton there was a general consensus of needing to unite and not hold on to grudges. Some maybe haven’t, but with that, those who feverishly backed him need to take accountability. Many on there love to portray Bru as this pantomime villain, painting everyone under the same brush because one or two post negative and sometimes cruel things, but won’t do anything about their own behaviour. Many of them won’t do anything about this holier than thou attitude that they have had for years. Never mind that this caused them to be blind to faults in Swann and Hilton, and those they chastised as club killing parasites were right. Can some people on here improve in how they frame matters? Yes, but so can they, so less of the talk of ‘toxic Bru fans’ is needed, especially after this rhetoric of theirs caused them to clap along to the club’s near oblivion, and they still can’t look at themselves and take the slightest of self-reflection.

A couple of questions for you?
-what are the characteristics that are common to “us lot”?
-when you say “you have no balls,” what do you mean?As others have put far better than me, this forum does not comprise a homogenous group of people and opinion. There is a diversity of views, there are disagreements, and there is sometimes nuance (look it up). This Bru as bogeyman really doesn’t fly, but I guess is serves the ends of some while helping the time pass for someone trying to stay on the straight and narrow.

On Facebook someone called Earl posted something about everyone should get along, and included a link to a potentially contentious thread on here. That was disingenuous and deliberately provocative, done to incite a pile-on, imho.

Sorry stateI sit in Threadgold Stand and in my eighties – that box getting ever closer. In my experience we oldies are less rigid in viewpoints. It’s generally the younger that seem to have a fixed position on any subject believing they are always correct with their opinion. I can with confidence say that us oldies through a lifetime of experience are more open minded and less opinionated. We tend to comment with less haste and a lifetime of mistakes to make it so, which frustrates the younger bulls charging round the china shop spitting out unnecessary vitriol.

i have no ill will to any Scunny fans be it Maw Dave or Ryan
THAT DOES NOT MEAN I CANT /WONT VOICE MY OPINION ON WHAT IS A FORUM BASED ON DEBATE AMONGST OTHER THINGS.Maw has left the unity building but will still attend matches which is admirable he remains a long term fan of SUFC and has over recent years done a lot of good for the club but within all that there was nipplegate and rumoured (unproven) money issues which was bound to attract scrutiny.
PD .. once posted his nick name was Martite ..love him or hate him.. i doubt any fans where ever they choose to comment actually hated him but like Stu Maw after a low key start he set himself up with his “all about me attitude” to the point of making his own mugs and thus inviting scrutiny.. attempting to embed himself to who ever he could to be seen. All that said he did assist with sponsoring etc and seems well liked by many fans.
Dave by his own admission has only been a Scunny fan for a short time so no surprise he has chosen to fade away and cut ties completely .. possibly a rash decision no the less his choice, im sure he will pop up again somewhere in the future.As for Ryan and his drum .. Bru is being caned on this when in reality there was only ONE negative post about this on the forum thread .. just about everyone has backed Ryan saying hes adds to the matchday experience and atmos… alas the knives are out for BRU so adding the drummer negativity was always gonna happen.
There surely will be a few up n coming wannabees ready to step up to fill the voids left by departures time will tell.
