Overall: B should have done better
Defence: Good in parts, although should have learned a lot earlier on that you don’t need 5 at the back to keep a clean sheet in this league.
Midfield: Fails to recognise the need for a dominant ball winner. Has a plan B that seems to bypass the midfield all together.
Attack: Took him a long time to grasp the metal that we need to score one more than the opposition to win a game. Attacking resources not set up or organised to score multiple times in a game
Substitutions: prefers quantity over quality
Tactical nous: still learning!
Motivational skills: Questionable.Advice: Permit to repeat the year.

April 24, 2025 at 5:14 pm #303283If you’re managing the U16 team, don’t put two U11s in the centre of midfield.
April 24, 2025 at 5:26 pm #303285With the resources and budget at his disposal this season is only a pass or a fail.
Promotion is a pass and the chance to take a much tougher exam next season. NLN for another season and it should be thanks and goodbye.
Same as it was for Dean last season.

April 24, 2025 at 11:29 pm #303323I’d love to hear who could be a replacement… Considering the reduced budget next season.
April 25, 2025 at 1:26 am #303324Shows little ambition. Should have done far better with what was at his disposal.
Fails to motivate playing staff to improve basics.Overall poor performance should a change of career be considered.

Surely we can’t afford one to manage the football team and another to sit at home managing his garden?April 25, 2025 at 3:12 am #303330Shows little ambition. Should have done far better with what was at his disposal.

Pretty much how i see it .. all this still learning means jack shit if still in NLN.
Without taking into consideration our delicate fiscal situation and who would replace them IMO AB n Scoff should be relieved of their duties if the remit which was PROMOTION is not attained ..
Contact Jerrys express as may need a bus if all the players jumping ship join AB n Co.
Can see us starting from scratch next season in NLN and AB isnt the guy to build a whole new team judging by his signings like Beck.

Must try much harder or look for a career change.1 user thanked author for this post.
April 25, 2025 at 10:36 am #303355We’re still in with two possibilities for promotion. One of them is highly unlikely and out of our hands (ie. results elsewhere required on Saturday) and the other is through the Play Offs.
It’s not ideal as there is still the element of jeopardy at this late stage when we might have already wrapped things up. But it’s a bit much to keep reading comments about how we should have absolutely pissed the league and Butler is a failure. It smacks of entitlement.
April 25, 2025 at 10:40 am #303357Some fans spit their dummies out when things dont go the way they think it should, entirely understandable it happens at all clubs and all fanbases, they will all calm down eventually and enjoy the summer sun and a few weeks off from all the hustle and bustle of the beautiful game, then come back all recharged and buzzing for next season. Was it ever thus.
April 25, 2025 at 10:43 am #303358The comments are understandable though. We have some of the best players in this league and the strongest squad in the league. What we don’t have is the best manager. For clarity, I think he’s done OK, but “could/must do better” is a fair assessment.

We also have some players that aren’t the best in the league. We’ve also had an injury to a key striker which kept him out for almost two months. We’ve also had off-the-field noise a bit too loud in recent weeks.
We’ve also got absolutely no right to presume that because we were fairly well-equipped to do well that we actually would do well. That’s not really how football works – it’s still a bit of a lottery when there are other teams battling and bullying their way forward in this league. But you can mitigate against that as much as possible – and I think we did do. We fell a bit short for a spell, and our ongoing away form has been average, and those things have cost us the title. But we’ve been relatively consistent across the whole season and we’re still in with a shout of getting promotion. So I’d say Butler has done quite well.

That’s true, but in our case it seems particularly entitled.
April 25, 2025 at 11:26 am #303362It’s a similar pattern at other ex-league clubs when it’s not all rosy on field. Bury the most obvious example until recently. I think Butler’s done fair to middling this season but there are numerous mitigating factors already cited. Ultimately the Board are going to decide so I’ll wait and see what happens. Current faith in two of the Directors and the CEO isn’t fantastic right now mind.
Just to add, we’re not mid table – scraping playoffs that numerous supporters reckoned we be at come season end so Butler has at least exceeded expectations for some in terms of final league position?

I’d say middling to good. In his first season as a manager that is not a bad effort – and he’s learned as he’s gone along with a fair bit of dignity imho.
April 25, 2025 at 11:32 am #303364Yes, I think that’s fair

April 25, 2025 at 11:55 am #303365Yes, I think that’s fair
A lot of the entitlement and histrionics comes from attachment to our former status. I do sort of understand it as it’s pretty embarrassing to have fallen to this lower level. But I think with our Club’s recent off-the-field history, being calm, measured and realistic is the best way forward. And being fair about Butler’s efforts is the done thing.
April 25, 2025 at 12:00 pm #303366No sense of entitlement here.
If someone gave me the best budget in the league (by a margin allegedly) and the best squad of players (Butlers words not mine) then I would be expecting promotion.
As for losing our centre forward for a few weeks shouldn’t be a problem given Butler has recruited 3 other centre forwards before the injury happened.
If Butler had taken over this squad/budget in the league above and escaped relegation I would be saying well done Andy.
April 25, 2025 at 12:05 pm #303369I suspect the majority wouldn’t be saying ‘well done Andy’.

We haven’t not been promoted. That’s my point about some of the comments I’ve seen bandied about. Why lay into him / them at this stage when the season is not over and we don’t know whether ‘the job’ has been done or not?
… and what would you expect him to say about his players? Part of man-management is to keep your team emotionally buoyant as that surely improves confidence and therefore performance. I’ve never heard him say “We’ve got the best squad of players”, but I have repeatedly heard “I believe we’ve got the best squad of players”. There’s a subtle but important difference, imho.
April 25, 2025 at 12:17 pm #303373As it happens I agree with what Butler thinks regarding his squad. Buxton are the only team to take us on at football and better us on the day.
Butler still gets a pass mark from me if we win the playoffs.
April 25, 2025 at 12:21 pm #303374Butler still gets a pass mark from me if we win the playoffs.
All but a very few will say aye to that.
April 25, 2025 at 7:28 pm #303416i think Butler has been a big fat negative shit and he and his ppl should buggar off as we will get walloped at Hereford and fail miserably in the play offs due to his choices and his players being uninterested n lacking passion.
April 26, 2025 at 7:49 am #303429I had a dream / nightmare last night – all my teeth fell out.
Back to the reality of the morn.
Pope’s deceased.
My teeth are still all in my head.
We must beat Hereford.
Kiddy must lose.
Farsley have to not lose.Enjoy your day, the beer and the sun!
May 15, 2025 at 1:11 pm #304464Come 18:00hrs on Sun 18th May 2025 – will it be an epitaph, a prologue or an end of season developmental review?
May 15, 2025 at 1:29 pm #304466Well if it is that’ll be at least 5 who’ve lost their managerial jobs in NLN, King’s Lynn boss the latest. To think that’ll be 11 new managers to jostle with and 5 new grounds. Doesn’t bare thinking about.
No sentiment if he fails, should be the same outcome has Jimmy received.2 users thanked author for this post.

So it’s not going to extra time and penalties then?
May 15, 2025 at 1:42 pm #304471Teacher has had some positives about Andy’s progress this year, but he has been set extra homework to make sure he’s ready for the next grade.
