What did anyone learn tonight?
Not being cynical, condescending or patronising – but, surely an SUFC X1 should beat an App Frod team?
The guy who got two of their goals was an ex-academy player… tsk.
What happened or didn’t happen?

01 Jul Louth Town 5-1 W
05 Jul Lutterworth 1-1 D

12 Jul Hinckley AFC 4-1 W
19 Jul Coalville Town 4-4 DDakin bagged a hat-trick yesterday. They had two cleared off the line and also hit the bar and the post.
Dakin got a brace against Louth as did Johnson.
4 different goal scorers v Hinckley.
They hit the bar & the post in the 0-0 against Brigg.
It seems they press high and obviously are hitting a lot of goals.
They have a Reserve & U18 team too.
I’ll have a pound on Dakin getting a goal.

Sat, Aug 2nd – Worksop TownYou’d think AB would start these last 2 PSFs with his first X1 and treat them as proper games – only using subs if there’s an injury, performance or tactical reason?
July 23, 2025 at 9:26 am #307470Do you think he is anywhere near knowing his 1st XI? Surely the formation must come first to allow you to decide who’s the best option. Unless he’s going to use an old favourite of mine – pick your best 10 outfield players and use a formation that fits them. Highly unlikely. Hardly anybody played a full game yet and numerous systems tried, hopeful that 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 will be his chosen one.
July 23, 2025 at 9:48 am #307473As far as I can see we are really short of wingbacks.
July 23, 2025 at 10:09 am #307475Still playing trialists in Shipstone and Simmonds and as far as I am aware neither have been offered a contract.
August 2, 2025 at 6:25 pm #307952Underwhelming might be an over exaggeration?
We’ll get a shock when we come up against the NL teams if this is the standard / level of prep!
Sat, Jul 12th – Cleethorpes (A) – 2pm
Tue, Jul 15th – Crowle (A) – 7pm
Sat, Jul 19th – Gainsborough (A) – TBC
Sat, Aug 2nd – Worksop Town (A) – 3pmSo, where are we now?
August 2, 2025 at 7:45 pm #307957We’re at the end of pre-season. The coaching staff have had a chance to look at everyone and this time next week we’ll be up and running.
August 3, 2025 at 9:59 am #308153Still baffled having trialists in the team for the last friendly and then not having a look at them, what do the coaching staff learn from that.

August 3, 2025 at 10:36 am #308186Suspect the 3 still involved yesterday had a gentleman’s agreement to do a complete full time preseason.
I am sure they will have known for 2 or 3 weeks they weren’t getting a contract here. They may even have deals with part time sides already but the preseason work will help them get off to a good start wherever they end up.
Meanwhile it has allowed Butler to have 11 a side practice sessions.

I’ll stick place odds up tomorrow.
Apparently there has been a lot of bets on Boston to secure a place – third highest bet selection / placement in the NL. -
