The latest Butler interview snippet from BBC Radio Humberside is well worth watching, just for the response to the inevitable Billy Sharp question. Pretty clear there’s some beef…
April 24, 2026 at 8:20 am #319754Is there a link?
April 24, 2026 at 8:41 am #319755A player coach with duties of improving the forwards thought ideal.
Would help the younger players and Billy in his coaching aspirations.Answer was terse to say the least.
April 24, 2026 at 9:02 am #319756Is there a link?
Yes, Sharp used to play for us.

Brisket or Topside 🤔

Yes, Sharp used to play for us.
Ah, you’ve not lost it Deerey.
🙄🙄🙄April 24, 2026 at 12:14 pm #319763To be honest would you want someone coming in of that age as a coach, potentially who’d take your job just like he did himself do.
Same when Cliff Byrne wasn’t offered a new contract from the then manager in charge, bit like expecting turkey’s to vote for Xmas.
The correct decision for Butler.1 user thanked author for this post.
April 24, 2026 at 12:39 pm #319764Just read a linked article on Donny.
“McCann has already met with players he feels can bolster his ranks for next season and by the time Stevenage arrive at the Eco-Power Stadium, he will have spoken with chairman Terry Bramall and chief executive Gavin Baldwin about finalising the playing budget.”
Dare we hope that AB has done the same?

The correct decision for Butler.I just don’t want a 40 year old coming in boosting his pension thanks. We need to be looking to the future.
April 24, 2026 at 1:29 pm #319766It’s the right decision, but he could have found any number of other ways of responding in a more professional way.
April 24, 2026 at 1:29 pm #319767Billy as player manager could be the future for you inbreds.

Butler?
Seriously doubt it.1 user thanked author for this post.
April 24, 2026 at 2:50 pm #319769My 2 penneth ..
There does seem to be a fascination in many fans to get past players to “come home” FOR ME IS NOT A GOOD IDEA WHO EVER IT IS .. Sharp has had more clubs then Fred Flinstone so not sure there is any real loyalty or love for Scunny over anyone of the others.
As a player … If hes no longer good enough for Donny then is he still so sharp … read a few comments from Donny fans that hes past it so NO THANKS
As a coach etc .. didnt he apply for the managers / coaches job a while back ? he came to GP to be filmed in the promotional kit launch vid power washing in the stands , he also got sh8t for his celebration when scoring for Donny against us.
His interest in the manager / head coach job fell on deaf ears (thanks but no thanks) and didnt he chuck his toys out the pram shortly after having a pop saying he would never return to Scunny.Let Mr Sharp drift off into retirement or other avenues within the game ..im sure he will find a club as a player manager somewhere around the non league clubs.
So fickle is the game that never say never and come mid next season and IF the mighty Iron are doing badly in the NL Mr Butler may be toast and Billy can chuck his hat in the penalty box again.

Loyalty in football? As rare as rocking horse s**t! The days of Matt Le Tissier are long gone, kissing the current club’s badge is as loyal as most get.

April 24, 2026 at 5:04 pm #319773Hopefully no other ex players go the way of Le Tiss after finishing their playing careers
April 27, 2026 at 10:17 am #319887Is the special relationship with Donny over A LA USA and UK ??? ,Grant Mcann on Butler comment re Billy Sharp.. could they stop Westbrooke playing in the play offs ??

April 27, 2026 at 1:14 pm #319900We might sign players from somewhere else then…
April 27, 2026 at 1:33 pm #319905Butler just comes across as a complete c when handed a microphone.

April 27, 2026 at 2:28 pm #319910Maybe so awaywego, but wtf has it got to do with McCann? It’s hardly disrespectful barely commenting and clearly Butler doesn’t want to talk about it or need the distraction. What, are all managers of potential new clubs expected to lick Billy’s boots (one for the older fans)? Concentrate on your own job and club Grant.

McCann got what he wanted from it.
Butler needs something similar tomorrow maybe just show the players the betting odds where they seem to have written his team off.April 27, 2026 at 5:45 pm #319923The bookies are usually right
April 27, 2026 at 6:12 pm #319924Not when it comes to scunny this season they aren’t Deerey.
To be fair everyone is clueless to know which team is going to turn up the good the bad or the ugly, or what team Butler will put out.
And not that bookies in football get it right it’s just they have that dreaded draw in their favour.
The only time I’ve put a draw down is on the old football coupon. Never on a bet.April 27, 2026 at 6:38 pm #319925Maybe so awaywego, but wtf has it got to do with McCann? McCann was in danger of the sack until he was given more money to spend, he’s under pressure down the A18.
AB was asked the question on RH tonight and says he didn’t intend to be disrespectful. Non Story.
April 27, 2026 at 8:21 pm #319930It’s the right decision, but he could have found any number of other ways of responding in a more professional way.
I didn’t think it was unprofessional.
April 27, 2026 at 8:26 pm #319931McCann the unprofessional one. No reason to comment on Butler giving a honest answer to a question.
Don’t think Sharp needs his ego massaging by Butler. People moan they aren’t kept in the picture and when they are they still moan.1 user thanked author for this post.
April 27, 2026 at 9:31 pm #319933Let’s agree to differ. It came across as unnecessarily terse at best. In McCann’s shoes, I would have ignored it, but maybe there is some history?
It’s not a capital offence, but AB does need to polish up his approach to comms, media, engagement.
He could have said: “What a career he’s had and I wish him all the best in what he chooses to do next. But, no, we are not interested in bringing Billy back at this stage of our development as a club, and at this point in his career.” Same response in essence, but entirely different tone.
It’s the right decision, but he could have found any number of other ways of responding in a more professional way.
I didn’t think it was unprofessional.

April 27, 2026 at 9:33 pm #319934And btw, I was one of the people deeply unimpressed with Sharp’s antics when he scored against us.
