Not sour, a long way from that trait.

Another primary reason why so few players make it as a Pro, is the year on year increase of overseas players at clubs.
We are seeing this extend further and further down the pyramid.

Yes, everyone wants and expects instant success – that’s not realistic or attainable.

There can only be 4 league winners among the 92 clubs. 1 FA Cup & 1 League Cup winner.

Ok, so some clubs may / can measure success against their budget / fan base / attendance / squad size / history etc

There are very few managers who walk away from a position of their own accord – Ferguson, Wenger, Klopp, Pep etc.

Most fear the sack and aren’t interested in the Academies or giving young promising talent a run out.

It’s all geared for the Prem Clubs to hoover the very best talent up.

The advantage of being at a big club, is that there are plenty of branches to hit on the way down (when released). One of those branches (clubs) will probably take you.

Start out at a club of our stature, even when we were a L1 / L2 club and there are no branches to grab a hold on.

Sour was the wrong word, battle hardened maybe?

Agree with everything you have said, unfortunately the odds are massively stacked against young, would be footballers.

I myself have a nephew who is 10 and would likely be in the academy set-up with us if there was one, so maybe my view is obscured due to this..

Just experienced in the system / process… from start to conclusion.

Too many fathers wear rose tinted glasses; others want it more than the son – maybe they were denied the opportunity as a kid themselves? Yet perhaps they thought and may still think that they were good enough? Maybe some were?

What annoys, in fact perturbs me; is that we can send U9s & U10s on a coach journey of 2 1/2 hours to play a minimum of 30 mins (rules state a min of 50% of game time)football.

A 5 hour round trip to play 30 minutes!
Scandalous!
Where is the logic & common sense in that.
It teeters on child abuse.

Better to stay / join one of the best Sunday league teams within the area that you live. Pick a good club and they’ll probably have “B” licenced coaches… the programs have been in place long enough now. Stick with a ‘Super’ Sunday League club and you’ll get more game time each week and can play in tournaments in the summer.

Plus… you’ll save a fortune on travel costs.
