Course it doesn’t matter who you play, it’s just nice to see them tested against higher opposition, all clubs normally do it.

That’s why they tour abroad. Sunderland play South Shields and Gateshead then go to the Algarve but they still don’t know who they’ll be playing. Most likely Portuguese second tier clubs. Then they play Hearts for Craig Gordon’s testimonial, followed by a visit to the Mudrats and finishing with Real Betis at SoL.
I don’t think our pre-season budget will stretch to a continental tour just yet unless the Irish Iron lads can arrange for another run out against Finn Harps.
