I feel Clunan was underrated by his ardent critics and overrated by his fans. He did well in NLN, some didn’t see it, but the NL will be a lot more physical and that could have been his undoing.
Must admit I warmed to him as the season progressed. Terrific work ethic, occasional good skills. Made mistakes, stray passes etc – but in general a big contributor to the success of 2024/25.
If he’s going back to Kings Lynn, I’d say it’s in part a geography issue – wasn’t he travelling up to Scunthorpe every day? He has a small child (or children?), and time travelling is wasted time, away from his kids and away from family responsibility.
Or, if he actually moved his family to the Scunthorpe area, perhaps the day to day support network you need when you have small kids just isn’t there for them.
