An ancient problem reared its ugly head, however. The defence played well enough, I suppose, but look at all the pressure it had to face with the failings of the midfield in front of it. Hole after hole opened up and we could easily have lost by half a dozen.
I can’t agree about this, Taft looked half asleep all game, Onarise is painfully slow on the turn and he can’t pass the ball at all, Thompson & Millen were lucky not to get sent off for persistent fouling.
The midfield was a non-entity too but that back 4 has not got a lot to recommend it.
The team definitely showed some gumption second half, especially after Scrimshaw replaced the anonymous Loft, but we don’t seem to have the ability to actually build an attack. Any chances we have seem to almost happen by accident rather than design.
No width last night and no one who could run in behind the opposition defence (which didn’t look that good on the few occasions it was actually tested).
Hill’s got plenty to do, with 18/46 games played I’m not sure there’s enough time left to do it.
