Hill has been here 15 days. Had 4 games in that time so has had about 5 days training with the team.
He has inherited a team not match fit enough to play the high tempo pressing game he requires.
He has taken over a team that have been actively trained for 18 months to drop back into shape and hoofing it upfield as far and as quickly as possible.
Out of the 3 players brought in to add experience to the young squad 2 are injured and 1 is well short of match fitness.
Whenever we play a half decent team who are prepared to work hard (e.g. Mansfield) we are going to get beat.
When we play a shite team or a team going through the motions (e.g. Salford) then we might get a result.
When Hill gets them match fit (a month?) and when he can add 2 or 3 genuine League quality players (mid January Swann permitting) then we might win a few points against half decent teams as well.
Let’s be realistic here. Matching last seasons position will be hard graft and a minor miracle. Like most I remain furious with the arrogance and incompetence that has put the club in this position but the manager and the players are the ones we have and they are going to need all the help and support that they can get.
Keep the ground and ownership on the back burner for now and try and help the team and manager to somehow make the great escape.
