Agree with you both Cass and NI. I think our players now fall into 3 different categories.
1. Players that can just about hack League 2 football
2. Players that are not yet ready or have not yet proved they are ready for League 2 football
3. Those that probably never will be ready
The time has come to decide the category ones and they are in the squad regardless. Top up the bench (and the team in times of excessive injuries – do the Iron have any other times) with the category twos.
Pay off, loan out or send training with the Academy the category threes to see if they can pick up some basic footballing skills.
My take is that the category ones are probably:
GK’S Watson & Bilson (when fit)
RB’s Rowe – Jury out on Millen but hopeful when properly fit
CB’s Onariase, Davis, Taft & Rowe at a push
LB’s O’Malley & Thompson
RM’s Bunn and possibly Wilson
CM’s Beeston, Perry, Pugh, Wood and Kenyon (hope his is a bit quicker when fit)
LM’s Only viable options are play Bunn their with Wilson or Wood on the right (or the one that is not playing LB)
Front 2 Jarvis, Scrimshaw and Loft when fit
My category twos
Hackney, Collins, Hallam (on the odd occasion he is fit)
Category threes
Hippolyte, Green, O’Neil. All have had chances and never shown any signs they are or will ever be League standard
Baker, Shrimpton, Gallimore, Jessop all too young/inexperienced to have expectations of. Wilson looks to be the one youngster comfortable at League level based on pre-season performances.
If the category ones can stay long term injury free we have a chance of staying up but why we used our last two loan slots on more centre midfield players when we are desparate for wide midfielders I have no idea.
