It is all about opinions but mine is that Southgate has 12 to 15 genuine world class players available.
Previous England managers have had 4 or 5 at best.
11 of them were in the team against a Polish team with one world class player.
We set up to not lose and to negate the threat of their one class player.
I think that is poor coaching.
We have all heard about “golden generations” with Portugal and Belgium.
I think we have one now and Mr Cautious is blowing it.
Similarities with Cox are there to see.
I am not suggesting the Iron have a golden generation (far from it) but we do have plenty of players well capable of performing at League 2 level. But we send them out every game with the overwhelming priority not to concede thus handing the initiative to the opposition.
It’s as if we must not concede because we probably won’t score. Self fulfilling prophesy comes into play. In Ferguson’s heyday Man U players went into every game knowing they were expected to win it. They were told (probably very loudly) that they were better than the opposition and they often were.
I would love to see some of that mentality from Cox and Southgate.
