Scunthorpe United midfielder Joe Rowley has expressed his desire to secure his future at the club, stating he would be “more than happy” to enter talks to sign a new deal as his current contract enters its final months.
The 26-year-old, who has become a mainstay in Andy Butler’s side, confirmed that no formal talks have yet taken place but hopes talks over his future will begin “sooner rather than later.”
“I’d be more than happy to have that conversation if it comes along,” Rowley told BBC Radio Humberside. “I feel right at home at this football club. It’s a fantastic place to be, from the very top all the way through, and the supporters have been fantastic.
“Every player wants security,” he said. “The sooner the better, really. If the club sat me down and put a deal in front of me, I’d be more than happy to discuss it.”
The midfielder’s comments come at a pivotal moment for the Iron. Following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Morecambe – in which Rowley scored his first goal for the club in nearly a year – Scunthorpe reached the 50-point milestone originally set as a target for National League survival.
While reaching the 50-point mark was the primary objective at the start of the campaign, Rowley insists the squad’s ambitions have shifted toward the promotion places.
“The goal now is to get the next set of points,” Rowley added. “The 50 points was to stay up; we’ve reached that tally, and now it’s about making sure we stay in those playoff positions.”
The Iron face a quick turnaround as they travel to promotion rivals Boreham Wood on Tuesday night. Despite the frustration of conceding a 96th-minute equalizer on Saturday, Rowley believes the team is in a strong position.
“We created enough chances to win the game in the second half. It’s a game of two halves, as the cliché goes, but we’re ready for Tuesday. Boreham Wood are a very good team, but so are we.”
