Looking at the team I don’t think we have enough in the squad to be champions. At times we look like a mid-table NLN team. If we are serious about promotion we need to get some depth and quality added to the squad.

On paper this fixture has comfortable home win written all over it however, I have supported Scunthorpe United for too long to write off the opposition before we even kick a ball. We have more than enough in the squad to get the 3 points, and a few goals. I expect that Radcliffe will be in damage limitation mode, and will likely park the bus and try to frustrate us at every opportunity.
All that said, I’m still going for a comfortable 3-0 home win.

Just got around to watching the match highlights from the match…. My god, that was possibly the worst ever display of what could laughably termed as defending!
There’s tighter defences in Division 6 of the Cornwall & District Ginster Pastie League.
I hope I am wrong, however with the form over the last few weeks I have little faith that we will come away with all 3 points at Chester.
Given the fact that the fans put their hands in their pockets, raising a significant amount of cash to pay the wages of the staff and players, I feel that there is no way we (Scunthorpe United) have the worst fans in England. Indeed one could argue that given the dross we have been served up over the last few years, having over 4,000 at home matches in regional football, means that we have some of the best fans in England.
Paying customers (fans) do have a right to voice their displeasure even if it is somewhat misguided at times. All supporters should be somewhat concerned in the current form however, we all have to be realistic and understand that despite all the money coming in, the previous mismanagement of the club has meant that we are not in a financial position to be able to throw money at the problem.
I do not support Scunthorpe United because I am a glory hunter. I support the club because it is in the blood and all I want is a club to follow that will be competitive in whatever division we ply our trade in, and I suspect I am not on my own in that!

I can’t see anything but a comfortable win for the Iron. The new manager bounce is a myth, and Oxford City are a team that have made a habit of losing.
4-0 to the Iron, att: 3982
Blyth Spartans supporters boycotting on Saturday; taken over just before playing us last year by a shady businessman with no traceable wealth. Being ran into the ground and currently occupy the relegation places of the Northern Premier League.
I recall reading about the takeover when it was announced and thinking this will end up in tears. It is about time the football authorities actually started to implement some proper governance in relation to club ownership. Football clubs are so ingrained into their local communities, and it seems that there are so many unsavory characters that are willing to take on ownership. When the proverbial hits the fan, the repercussions are felt beyond the club players and staff.

Just been watching this for old times sake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmPr9RIiKyA
I truly hope for the sake of the club and it’s supporters that the anonymous backer is not David four names.

I think we need a little perspective here;
As annoying as it is (and it is annoying), we must accept that the players will make mistakes and passing will go awry from time to time. These players are plying their trade at this level for a reason. If they weren’t prone to mistakes they would likely be playing in the EFL and not in the National North for Scunthorpe United.

Given the recent results from both teams we should be going into the match with a high level of confidence. That said, the team needs to make sure they stay focused and cut out those miss-placed passes that have become far to common in the recent matches. The advantage of having a manager like Andy Butler means that he will be doing all he can to ensure that the team do not go into the match thinking they’ve already won.
I expect Warrington to setup for damage limitation, and they will be heavily focused on defence and attempting to catch us on the break. My prediction is as follows:
Scunthorpe 3 Warrington 0
Attendance: 4796 (118 away)I think we’ll take this one, although it won’t be an easy win. My prediction is Curzon 0 Scunthorpe 2
I know it’s early to say however I suspect the improved fitness of the squad, and the attention to detail that Andy Butler and the backroom team are doing will have a huge impact on results this season. We need to be mindful that for the main part, most teams in this division are part-time, and those that are full-time are likely not applying the same focus on squad fitness as Andy and the team are. I know it’s a little early, however I fully expect that we will be champions this season (remember, I called it early when we got relegated from League One all those years ago, so I have form.).
The ground looks small…anyone have a clue what the capacity is?
A cup run would be nice, but promotion has to be the focus for this season above all else.
Missed out on this one. They went on sale whilst I was at the gym, and were sold out by the time I got back home!
A fantastic team performance, and a deserved win. Butler has done a brilliant job with the squad, this is the sort of match that we would have lost last season!
A win for the Iron tonight would be brilliant however, we have to remember that promotion isn’t won or lost in August.
I am expecting an tight match, and it’ll be interesting to see how the squad reacts to the pressure of this match. That said, I think we’ll edge it by 1 goal and I am going for a 2-1 victory to the Iron. Attendance will be 4758 (234 away).
remember when Mo Farah’s ABP was flagged “suspicious” by WADA? No? That’s because it was brushed under the carpet and he split with the disgraced and banned coach Alberto Salazar. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, there are some big names in elite sport, and some are too big to test positive.
In relation to caffeine@ this was removed from the WADA banned substances in 20034 as too many athlete’s were getting caught up in doping scandals just for drinking coffee!
@PhilAnders – I fully understand how biological passports and doping control work under WADA, along with the whereabouts registration, Global Dro and the informed sport database. I’ve seen enough elite level athletes and coaches so trust me, just because someone’s test is reported as clean it does NOT guarantee they are free from performance enhancing pharmaceuticals.
Back to SUFC; it is good to see that AB is taking the fitness and post match recovery serious. It will make a huge difference, especially as the pitches start to get heavy during the winter and spring months.
any one ever heard of micro-dosing, or athletes who names are too big to be fail a doping test?

Looks like he’s received a strong worded letter…not sure that’ll make much difference to his future plans!
Maybe David WHAM can come down and stick a sign on it…
I think we’ll cruise to another 3-0 win and my guess for the attendance will be 4371 with 96 away following.
This one is difficult to call; Brackley did well last season however, it’s not too uncommon to see play-off losers struggle the next season and both teams lost in the play-offs.
I have a feeling that it may be the Butler fitness that gets us a win today and I’m going to a 1-0 to the Iron.
All this “He’s passionate and loves the club” rubbish is annoying. I am also passionate and love the club but I wouldn’t expect to be given the manager’s job! I have yet to see anything that makes me think “wow, he’s a great manager”.

The £100,000 promotion bonuses was another crazy move from Hilton. With that kind of bill, and the level of debt at the club, you couldn’t blame the board if they wanted to go up through the play-offs rather than automatic. The gate receipts from a home play-off semi-final and final would have likely covered the bonus payments.
Clean slate, new manager and coaching staff. Oh and hopefully an away day at Scarborough!
“Will I chuck it in if Jimmy Dean is the manager next season?” – no, because I am a ‘ride or die’ supporter. Do I feel he is not the man to take us forward? Lets put it this way; he had two attempts at gaining promotion this season; the first was to win the league. He failed on that one. The second was to win the play-offs. He failed on that one too.
I honestly feel that just about any other football manager would have won the league with the squad we had at our disposal. He may be passionate about the club, but he is not the man for the job.
