As the magic of the FACup fades from us for another year, and the memories of Rochdale’s problem pitch resonate with us, it’s time to consider the run in to Christmas, well Boxing Day to be precise. These are the teams we must beat if we are to be genuine promotion contenders. We must find a way to win at least 5 of these games without losing the other 2. 20 points would put us in with the serious contenders. Less and we run the risk of slipping out of the play offs. I personally would be more than happy with wins by one goal, two to stop a surely bum coming into the last 10 mins and added time! Let’s start with Yeovil on Saturday 3-1 Iron with an attendance of 4250. Whitehall, Roberts and Sellars Fleming to score.

Top 7 teams looking locked in, for now, particularly comparing goal difference of teams below Southend. Be interesting to see what it looks like by Jan.

At the Turn of the New Year, I think league positions 1-4 will be separated by a gap of no more than 3 points. There will then be a gap of 3/4 points and then positions 5-8 or 9 will also be separated by a small number of points(?3) there will then be a gap of 3/4 points to the rest of the teams in the league. I expect this gap to widen to 6-7 points by the end of March. We need to be in the 1-4 position at the end of the year. For the rest of the year we should strongly attempt to win every game! Home and Away! Didn’t think I would be writing that at the end of July!

Looking at November fixtures – no reason why we shouldn’t be winning all of these games. Never take things for granted but it’s a fairly easy run of fixtures. A lot of the top seven playing each other multiple times as well.

Anyone on here old enough to remember Yeovil’s famous cup upset V Sunderland in 1949? It was still being reminisced about in football annuals when I was a lad in the early 70s.

Over the years our weakness has usually been against the teams far lower in the league. We seem to think they will roll over and give up ! This is the area that needs maximum attention.

The teams in the same area in the league and we we realise we have to compete. Do we want to go up again so quickly while our finances are still being addressed. If we do then the Div 2 league money is not to be sniffed at but we must not gamble recklessly.

Board discussions will be have been held, of that I am sure.

Oh yes let’s not go up because of the finances.
Give over, probably our best chance to go up again straight away why would any fan not want promotion.
Board members putting £60,000 a month in to the club in the National League North and your worried about our finances.
Finances F all to do with fans we get no say whatsoever on how the money is spent and that’s how it should be, we can agree or disagree how they go about Their business, but just give the manager the best they can which I think they are, and let’s not us meagre fans worry about the finances.
We couldn’t afford the championship but wouldn’t swap them seasons up there for financial stability.
Let’s not reinvent the wheel if you buy a football club you go into it realising you’ll probably loose money.

Damn right we should be concerned about finances. Have the Swann and Hilton eras taught you nothing awaywego?

It’s mind boggling that you take issue with this common sense observation:

‘the Div 2 league money is not to be sniffed at but we must not gamble recklessly.’

Exactly as it should be if we want a solvent club to support in the future

And the reckless debt being run up from the loans Deerey.
    Happy with that are we.

No, but it is what it is and we are where we are, though neither do I like the idea of racking up more debt in the form of loans if it’s not necessary. That’s where balance comes in rather than building up even more debt than is necessary to get back to league status. The gambler tried that and failed. The fraudster took us to the brink of insolvency.
