At Asda yesterday I picked up 4 cans of Tribute, shelf marked £5, ‘price roll back from £5.50’. At the till I was was told they were £5.50. After explaining the shelf price was £5, the shop assistant just said ‘says £5.50 on the till and there’s nothing I can do about it’. At which point I laughed and said ‘is that it? You’re not going to check the advertised price or anything else helpful?’. Answer was ‘no’, so I grumbled something about poor customer service and not purchasing out of principle and left. Now, I was always under the impression shops were obliged to sell the goods for what the shelf price says. Looked it up. Apparently not. Ergo, ‘the customer is always right’ is a load of old chuff. Try blaming that on Marxism!
