Just seen the highlights and must say the defensive side of the team leaves a lot to be desired. Hope I’m wrong.
July 27, 2025 at 3:19 pm #307664Indeed Bill, letting in 1 goal away from home. A train crash waiting to happen surely? #imspreadingthelove.
July 27, 2025 at 3:26 pm #307665Butler did say post Spennymoor they were still working on defensive shape and there would be more sharpening things up in the next fortnight before the season starts. Isn’t pre season meant to be be about building up over a period, starting with fitness then more ball and tactical work, trying things out, trying players in different positions in different systems? I’m sure the managerial and coaching staff are working to a plan over a time period leading up to the big KO, still a fortnight left, after the first ten games of the new season we will know a lot more then we do up to now that’s for sure.

July 27, 2025 at 5:07 pm #307666As I said on the other thread we looked better defensively with the dreaded five at the back. That’s because the full/wing backs were pushing up in a high press making the midfield quite compact and stifling their attack. Downside was that Whitehall was isolated up front so we’re relying on the energy and skills of the midfield to provide the killer pass. That or the wing backs getting up the line and putting in the crosses. Which to be fair is what they were trying to do yesterday.
Once you drop a defender and go with a standard four at the back there’s no hiding place for them. If you still want the width then you’re light in CMF which the opposition will exploit. Pack the midfield at the expense of wide men and there’s no outlet.
It’s fairly obvious and I’m sure the coaching staff are aware of it. It also reinforces the need for a midfield general. Something I don’t think we have at present.
July 27, 2025 at 7:29 pm #307669We looked better last season without the captain
July 28, 2025 at 12:35 pm #307698“Dodgy keeper”. Comment heard from Spennymoor on their highlights when Campbell failed to hold a simple shot straight at him (pathetic goalkeeping for their goal too).
If he was a trialist we’d all be questioning why the hell he’s being given this much game time. Very worrying if Butler thinks he’s good enough!
July 28, 2025 at 1:22 pm #307705Worry ye not BLT it’s going to be a long season and lots of things will happen and change, bit like any other season really.
July 28, 2025 at 1:30 pm #307707You are correct, my expectations have been set suitably low.
July 28, 2025 at 2:37 pm #307711I reckon mid table is about as low as we’ll finish, anything above and better will be a bonus IMO.
July 28, 2025 at 2:39 pm #307712I’m more comfortable now than I was at the end of last season
July 28, 2025 at 2:51 pm #307713Is that because you’ve had that chip removed from that shoulder 64.
July 28, 2025 at 3:08 pm #307715He’s the only one who thinks the goalkeeping situation has improved.

July 28, 2025 at 3:37 pm #307717I reckon 64 must have had his haemorrhoid operation done recently.

More don’t believe it’s worse.I don’t believe any of last season’s players were good enough,so glad we’ve shook the squad up a bit.Getting rid of Clunan a big step.
