The supposed experts you’re referring to knew what was best, soon as he dropped it we picked up. If Butler hadn’t listened he would have been sacked.
May 29, 2025 at 4:25 pm #305202Not strictly true on the first count and pure typical speculation on the second. If it helps you to believe your own claims to justify yourself and your existence, then it must have it’s merits. Bit like religion.

May 29, 2025 at 5:15 pm #305203Looks like we are keeping most of last seasons team. They didn’t perform with 5 at the back against part time teams in NLN. What makes you think they will perform better against full time teams in the NL?
Why does it look like we are keeping most of the team ??.. most still in talks on deals , unless you have insider info its purely speculation.

Absolutely bollox on both claims Burney!

May 29, 2025 at 7:57 pm #305207Let’s not forget the 5/3/2 3/5/2 produced some excellent form at the start of the year and delivered the best away results including wins at Brackley, South Shields and Curzon. It certainly wasn’t a dud from the start, but was no doubt a factor- especially at home- to why things turned sour towards Xmas as it became more defensive. I don’t solely put this down to the formation though, the whole tempo of the side was just flat and we seemed more intent of going sideways than forwards.
May 29, 2025 at 9:41 pm #305208TBF to AB it was an inconsistent league as the changes at the top and in the top seven positions throughout the season showed. We just dipped out winning the league by two points and super in form Kidderminster blew it during the last two games they played. We got promoted and AB did just fine, be grateful of the promotion and keep looking forward.

In his first season as manager he got us over the promotion line, which more experienced manager Jimmy Dean failed to do, playing (some say) worse football than Jimmy Dean, and also without the messiah Jacob Butterfield. I’d say that all told Butler did a very good job – you have to expect that there will be some ups and downs during the course of a season, and there were, and he rode them fairly well.
May 30, 2025 at 11:45 am #305218I didn’t want AB.
He surprised me when we started the season so well. I was shocked when we started going backwards but, as previously mentioned, we started playing too defensively – not surprising as we never really had the players to play as wing backs (Barcelona we ain’t!).
He changed the system, and although we played some dire defensive football at times, he got us over the line – although it would have been nice to have gone up as Champions (and better for my blood pressure too).
He has shown that he does know what he is doing. I just hope he can do so at a higher level.
He will have my full support in the coming season.
May 30, 2025 at 1:35 pm #305221If Butler’s obsession with 5 at the back had carried on much longer, he would have been sacked and we wouldn’t have been in a position to challenge for promotion.
You lot forgot what our form was like during that 5 at the back spell “minus the first handful of games in which it worked” ?
Certain posters have selective memories…during that time we were absolutely terrible and were dropping point like crazy.
We were that bad during that time fans on most media platforms were even questioning if he was good enough.
Very few on here stayed true to him and backed him even through the 5 at the back phase, fans64 been one I can remember, but I’m sure there were only a few others.
Now we’ve gone up you’re all making out you backed him and never doubted him during that horrendous time during the 5 at the back phase.
You absolute frauds. You lot are more fake than a pair of snide 4 stripe Adidas trainers. The brass neck on some of you is astounding.
May 30, 2025 at 2:38 pm #305227I doubt very much if he would have been sacked.
May 30, 2025 at 3:44 pm #305229One thing about WG when he spits his dummy out it’s usually quite entertaining, the older he gets the thicker his skin will become, give it time lad you’ll be fine.

May 30, 2025 at 4:37 pm #305232I don’t think it was playing 5 at the back that infuriated supporters- after all, until Scarborough away it was working pretty well- it was the failure to recognise that it was no longer working and a new approach was needed! I wouldn’t throw it away as a tactic, particularly away from home at some of the stronger sides in the NL. However, there must be a plan to change to a more flexible attacking system (4 3 3 or 4 2 4) at home or when we go behind away. Whether we will have the players to do this we will see!

May 30, 2025 at 6:04 pm #305233Mo Federa – contract extension triggered by York City.
May 30, 2025 at 9:50 pm #305238WG, you are aware that people can criticise a manager and simultaneously not want them to lose their job, right ?
May 31, 2025 at 3:56 am #305241Obviously AB should get credit for his achievements this season regardless how it happened he got us over the line just.
I admit i wasnt a fan of his appointment and i hope he can work some magic in what will be a really tough NL, we will know more when the new playing squad is formed and even more after first 10 fixtures.IMO ..In WGs defense due to 5 at the back and stale negative football or not AB was very close to being sacked and the Marine game was the moment .. anyway thats watter under the bridge but i hope his jobs not in danger come October / November 2025 as that would more than likely mean we are in a relegation dog fight.

June 1, 2025 at 5:01 pm #305262442 or 433 works for us, other derivations usually leaves it looking like 721 does not. We cannot afford the players with the technical ability to play such ways and our level management should stick to subbuteo for such visions.
Get a system for start of season and stick to it. No chuckle brother style and with players who can pass the ball. And see what happens.

June 4, 2025 at 3:08 am #305424Good luck to Sam Fishburn who has joined Blyth Spartans.
June 4, 2025 at 3:32 am #305425Slight correction there. He has signed for Blyth Town, which is a separate team from the same town.

One has to fully immerse oneself in to the local culture IA henceforth Sunday is my one bathing day so a nice big tub of steaming hot foamy water and tasty crumpet has become a ritual.
A few loose ends to tie up here before can kick back a bit, either my lad taking over the biz or selling up will mean i have time to travel so will most certainly plan to visit and obviously looking forward to getting to as many games as possible and hopefully meet a few Iron Bru members also.
Im guessing big changes in the 24 yrs ive been away ,one thing that has not changed is my love for SUFC and the town in general.
Back on topic .. SUFC awfully quiet on player updates apart from Cal Roberts whose in Turkey having new hair seeds planted.

June 9, 2025 at 10:48 am #305584Heard some rumours that there is going to be some player announcements today. Does anybody know if this is true?
June 9, 2025 at 11:13 am #305588Calum Roberts has been linked with Wigan.
June 9, 2025 at 12:09 pm #305589June 9, 2025 at 12:17 pm #305590That’s the cork out of the bottle. Who’s next?
June 9, 2025 at 1:15 pm #305591Fitzy has gone and Roberts is/has been closely linked with Wigan. If we lose both of those, this season is going to be a hell of a struggle. We haven’t exactly got the budget to draft in direct replacements so there will be an awful lot of luck involved.

With players starting to announce their departure via social media we definitely need to be getting some news about contract extensions and / or new signings from official club sources soon.
