I don’t think anything looks bleak until we find out who’s going and who’s coming in. Not sure how a reasonable assessment can be made yet.

May 23, 2025 at 9:11 am #304959Iromfromafar – the Evans / Barnet link came from Evans in his interview pre-Chester. Said there had been enquiries but he was happy and settled here. Also felt there was a job to finish both for the club and for him, for the fans to see what he can do. Also said he wasn’t bothered in further interest.
Post match said this season is the 1st time he can go on holiday not worrying about having a job for the start of a following season – can you imagine how that must feel.

May 23, 2025 at 10:12 am #304960That’s good news for him and the club, sounds very encouraging. Whatever anyone’s thoughts are on the management team, they appear to have fostered a really positive dressing room atmosphere

May 23, 2025 at 10:25 am #304961watched both the York v Oldham and FGR v Southend PO games and twas dam fine football on show ..if thats the standard we are up against next season its gonna be a long hard season.
Funny that, because I watched the Europa League Final and the football on show was shite!
So not so much about the level you’re at as how you perform on the day.
If AB can put together a team that will go out there and fight for the shirt and each other we’ll be fine. The problem we had during our rapid demise was too many players not putting in a shift.
May 23, 2025 at 10:45 am #304962Agreed NI plus the atmosphere around the club back then was shite, the club is now in a positive state of mind and pushing forward.

Thats why i wrote “looks bleak IF 7 or 8 depart”.watched both the York v Oldham and FGR v Southend PO games and twas dam fine football on show ..if thats the standard we are up against next season its gonna be a long hard season.

Agree but theres that word IF again… AB did manage to get a decent tune out of his troops this season but he inherit most from the Hilton n JD era …lets say IF MOST do leave he will have to form a squad basically from scratch.
I did notice Beck was very much on the edge on the celebrations looking rather uncomfortable which is a bit sad.Gotta feel a bit for York who finished 23 points more than Olldham then had a stinker against then in the PO semi .. reading on SM York are pressing the NL / EFL for change …good luck with that.
May 23, 2025 at 2:06 pm #304964My point was that it doesn’t necessarily look bleak if 7 or 8 depart. Not until we see who’s replacing them. And even then I wouldn’t make an assessment about it looking bleak or not till they’ve got some league games under their belt.
May 23, 2025 at 2:12 pm #304965If about 1/3rd did move on then I am sure we will have some replacements lined up.
Some say the football of the NL play offs was impressive and we could struggle then any replacements would surely be of a higher standard and that could be in technical ability or fitness/pace.
Hope we do move away from 1yr deals as prefer a settled squad that is easier to make the odd change. Certainly some hard decisions ahead for Mr Butler.
May 23, 2025 at 3:55 pm #304970I know exactly what you mean SF but all such things are double-edged when form and injuries play a part. Moreover, what about those – more than a few – who are stars in one context and a relative failure in another for reasons unfathomable.
May 25, 2025 at 1:19 pm #305026Well all will be known on Monday. Then we will have debates on the forum followed by guesses wide or perhaps very close ones 0n who is arriving.
May 25, 2025 at 1:27 pm #305028“Joe Rowley says @SUFCOfficial
will activate his contract’s option of another year”Good start.

Absolutely cass, since Joe got his fitness sorted and established himself in the starting lineup he has been most impressive, very consistent and we need more of that throughout the squad.
May 25, 2025 at 4:36 pm #305042I’ve really liked Rowley so far, rarely gives the ball away, puts his foot in and can drive forward with the ball. Just needs to add a few more goals to his game, think he’s only got the one this season.

He’s better than Scales.
May 26, 2025 at 1:23 am #305064He’s better than Scales
Scales isn’t that good, that’s why. Bundle of energy, but everything he does is at full tilt and as a result has very little composure. Nearly everything he does feels rushed and constantly gives the ball away as a result.
I still think the best I’ve see him play was when he was at RWB the season before. If Scales calmed down a tad and played with his head up a bit more, he’d be much better for it.

May 26, 2025 at 9:06 am #305068I know its a bank holiday in Blighty but hopefully we should start to get some updates re whose staying going gone already or in contract talks , AB did say Monday in his bus parade interview.
Sounds positive re Rowley
May 26, 2025 at 9:11 am #305069Only three released after all and no real surprises, shame about Finn but we need a proper midfield enforcer and he doesn’t fit that bill, can add Fitz, Roberts and Whitehall to that list IMO unless someone has a magic money tree available.

Retained List 2.0 will be more interesting.

Yes for sure as i have a feeling most still in negs will be leaving ..
May 26, 2025 at 10:23 am #305077Boyce, Barrows & Starbuck should be straightforward.
Fitz, Roberts & Whitehall clearly the most difficult.
How much competition we have for Beestin, Kelly, Clunan & Maxi will surely be the deciding factor. Can’t see any of them higher than NL so we must have a good chance of keeping them.May 26, 2025 at 10:46 am #305078With so many in negotiations will that hold up any potential new signings?
Don’t wait too long for them Andy the bargains soon get taken upMay 26, 2025 at 10:49 am #305079Is Campbell good enough for NL?
May 26, 2025 at 12:08 pm #305081I’m surprised we are offering/negotiating so many from the other era even though we gained promotion!!
Some stated Butlers hands were tied with poor players. And tbh are they good enough for the step up?
May 26, 2025 at 2:18 pm #305085Is Campbell good enough for NL?
Nope, not yet anyway.
May 26, 2025 at 3:39 pm #305087Good chance we will find out about Campbell pre season against some higher league opposition, we know he’s a good penalty stopper but in fairness to the lad he’s not had much chance with Fitz between the sticks.
May 26, 2025 at 5:58 pm #305091Another ex-Iron playoff hero.
Myles Hippolyte with the winning goal for Wimbledon today.
