Could not go but we made 3 subs after 19 minutes Hope they aren’t injuries
August 12, 2025 at 8:59 pm #309740Well I learned a lot from that. I hope Butler did.
August 12, 2025 at 8:59 pm #309741Good result, sooner we’re out the better.

August 12, 2025 at 9:39 pm #309744Looked good for 20 mins. Subs came on and then we were poor. Leave Campbell alone not his fault.
Eze didn’t look fit, disappointed with Dawson. Chadwick looked lost and Beck was his usual self. Hope we don’t get a lot of injuries as on this form they are not going to make good replacements.August 12, 2025 at 9:39 pm #309748Iron 2-3 Cats
Anyone know the attendance?August 12, 2025 at 9:45 pm #309750Just less than 1000
August 12, 2025 at 9:49 pm #309751900 and something – can’t remember the exact number.
Decent attendance for this most mickey mouse of cups.
Some decent football as well. From us for 40 minutes and then from Sunderland.
On that showing hope we don’t need to call on Chadwick, Dawson or Eze in midfield too often.
August 12, 2025 at 10:06 pm #309753Chadwick shouldn’t have been in that position. Better out wide where Eze was playing. Eze can’t tackle, Denton bailed him out on several occasions. Not sure where Dawson was playing either?
Don’t suppose there really was a formation after half an hour.
Sunderland lads’ first touch infinitely better than ours. We gave the ball away far too often, positively sloppy at times. Why does Beck try to chest the ball down only to lose it? Better off winning the headers.
Basically another pre season friendly. Nothing to see here, move along!

August 13, 2025 at 2:40 pm #309788What can you learn by playing a game arse about face.
Certainly not in the spirit of the rules his subs early doors, after courting an invite to the competition he should give it the full respect.
The extra games aren’t needed especially with the the 7 sub and 5 you can bring on rule should be plenty of game time for everyone barring 2nd goalie.
And there’s certainly no money to be made even if you do win the £8000 for a win.August 13, 2025 at 3:59 pm #309793‘Certainly not in the spirit of the rules his subs early doors’
Why, is there something in the rules about not subbing early?
August 13, 2025 at 4:58 pm #309796frustrating performance, taking 4 players off after 19 minutes a strange decision instead of starting with 10 changes and bring the better players on later, unless it is competition rules that 5 players have to start from previous match, but that second half performance was like what sent us down from the league to National League North, can’t blame Campbell, though I wish we could have their number 7, also where did our coaching staff disappear to the last few minutes
August 13, 2025 at 5:27 pm #309797Probably embarrassed and so they should be. If we are in the competition then we should be trying to win it. The excuse of giving players game time does not wash. We were shown how to play football by a suepposedley under 21 team. Winning 2 – 0 and losing disgusting, if nothing else he should have kept the team until half time and get a good score but 20 mins shows a great disinterested in this competition. Why did we accept the invitation. Last moan I am afraid I do not care what people say but Beck is a complete waste of time.
August 13, 2025 at 6:28 pm #309798Can’t disagree with any of the above.
Also, we avoid playing on the new pitch until we have to, then sign up for another four home games before Christmas!
Yes Mick, you have to start with four players other than the keeper who either played the last game or will start the next.
However the decision to take them off after 19 minutes makes a mockery of the ruling.
Very strange!

August 13, 2025 at 6:34 pm #309799Not according to Deerey NI.
August 13, 2025 at 6:39 pm #309801For a competition apparently most don’t give a hoot about, a few of you seem to care about treating it fairly. If it’s nothing more than a Mickey Mouse cup, who gives a toss?
August 13, 2025 at 7:02 pm #309804Dont like the competition at all, but once any team enters all should play within the spirit of the rules.
Bit like the iron bar selling bottles of coke with a price of £1.79 on the label and them then selling them at £3. Somethings are just wrong.
I’m no saint mind, guess we all have different acceptances of different things.August 13, 2025 at 7:04 pm #309805Forest Green just made two substitutions 45 seconds into the game!
August 13, 2025 at 7:24 pm #309806If anyone who couldn’t or didn’t go wants to make their own mind up on player performances or the pitch, the entire match is on Sunderland’s YouTube with picture quality DAZn can only dream of.

Another club using a tin pot competition for their own ends? Heaven forbid!
August 13, 2025 at 9:43 pm #309811Not got a problem with the competition per-se, but the organisers must be pretty naive if they think that clubs are not going to use it to give game time to their second/third string players.
Or could there be a better way of doing that?
August 13, 2025 at 10:53 pm #309815I don’t have a problem with the competition giving game time to our second string players. They need a competitive game to show their desire to wear the shirt. I wasn’t at the game and haven’t watched the YouTube feed. Did anyone playing show a desire to wear the shirt on Saturday?
August 13, 2025 at 11:03 pm #309816Yes, but there’s a difference between wanting to wear the shirt and being good enough to start in it.
August 14, 2025 at 8:50 am #3098274 and away in 1.
Having to take part in a Tuesday night MMC (Mickey Mouse Cup) game will ‘piss off’ the four involved… it encroaches in to their evening/day off and restricts their recreational options.
Rotate the four involved.
Sub them after a minute.
Let them get straight off home to their wife’s/girlfriend’s and kids.
There’s no need for them to hang about.
Job done.August 14, 2025 at 8:57 am #309828Forest Green just made two substitutions 45 seconds into the game!

It’s what the PL teams are doing so why not? If the PL teams had to play 4 players from their previous league fixture they’d have thenm off quicker than FGR did.
August 14, 2025 at 9:05 am #309829Subs clearly no problem for Sunderland U21s manager.
“It’s an outstanding experience for our young players,” Murty told the club. “We want to thank Scunthorpe because they’re a proper football club. They approached the game in exactly the way this competition should be respected, and that made it a proper contest.”Although this was puzzling:-
“It was a proper atmosphere tonight,” he added. “We had 17-year-olds playing in front of a big crowd for the first time”August 14, 2025 at 9:17 am #309831Yeah Cass it’s called ” talking coach bollocks blues”, think Bob Dylan wrote a song about it, basically they give so many interviews they end up talking bollocks. You hear it in most Premier league manager interviews every week in the season.

Ah right, I don’t particularly give a hoot if they do it either.
