From 90 mins:-
“Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney is being watched by some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs after a hugely impressive campaign at The Riverside Stadium, 90min understands.
The 20-year-old, who previously enjoyed a loan stint at Scunthorpe, has quickly become of Michael Carrick’s most trusted performers after graduating from the club’s youth academy, earning a regular place in midfield.
Boro are fearful that Hackney’s form could attract some of the Premier League’s top clubs.”Can we be absolutely sure that this was the player that we got? Carrick muat be one hell of a manager to have improved him that much.

May 24, 2023 at 9:15 am #262837Like a few of our players over the last handful of seasons, a good player in a team of duds is never likely to do very well, especially as his first proper experience of mens football.

May 24, 2023 at 9:17 am #262838Playing in a terrible team. I guess certain qualities can only emerge and develop when there is a decent platform to stand on.

May 24, 2023 at 10:28 am #262840It shows a couple of things, one that players look better with better players around them, two that young players can improve quickly.
On that point, I was thinking that Cameron Wilson looks like a player who would really benefit from some coaching, he’s got the skills, he just needs more help to become more effective, hopefully he will get that at his next club and become the next Matt Godden or Kyle Wootton, showing us what we missed.
May 24, 2023 at 2:56 pm #262893Wilson can gladly piss off for me. Godden and Wootton at least tried while they were here. Wilson’s attitude towards the back end was absolutely shocking.
I find it hard to believe that a home grown player, playing at the club he started out as a young kid could ever have that kind of attitude. I think that says a lot about him as a person.
May 24, 2023 at 3:26 pm #262896Yeah I disliked the petulant side of Wilson towards the end of last season and he could easily have walked against Southend with his stupidity. Hopefully it’s just his age and like Hackney will learn with experience, I hope so because he is a talent no doubt about that.
May 24, 2023 at 3:40 pm #262899Wasn’t the best end to his time here but Wilson contributed enough for me to earn himself a place at another National League side; definitely some raw talent so hopefully he can progress.
Hayden Hackney is a perfect example on how rotten our club has been in recent years when even he looked bang average, clearly there’s a talent there.
May 24, 2023 at 4:15 pm #262901Each of the opposition managers saw Wilson as the one player who could cause them problems so he was tightly marked so I don’t think his attitude was that bad.He always seemed to have two defenders marking him
May 24, 2023 at 4:46 pm #262905I think a couple of good match reports and the England C selection turned his head. Somebody should remind him that 1 player from each team HAD to be selected and he probably wasn’t in the best 100 NL players.
May 24, 2023 at 4:49 pm #262906Not bang average when it came to gobbing.
