Anyone know if it’s an initial month loan as the club state or rest of season as Alty state? If it is season long and no one else comes in I’d be more worried, unless there’s a recall clause.
February 7, 2026 at 9:36 am #316061I know which club I believe, what say you.
February 7, 2026 at 10:06 am #316062I just don’t get the timing, if we announced someone inwards at the same time great but we’re now heading into a crucial game on a pitch which saps energy and we’ve made our bench much weaker. Why not send him out Monday if at all.
The club get most things right but this is a strange one. Let’s hope we’re not a goal down chasing the game with the front men firing blanks.

Alty saying til end ov season gig https://altrinchamfc.com/blogs/news/declan-howe-becomes-seventh-signing-of-2026
Such a strange decision regardless and some clarification would be welcomed alas as ever things with SUFC a tad cloudy when it comes to keeping fans clear and up to date. Voice of the fans ???
Beck
Brogan
Scales
Campbell
i can get and not overly concerned .. (DID I MISS ANYONE)But Howe is a bit more complex to fathom out especially with little or no newbies incoming only most recently Connor Smith recently (which was great news).

Unless Smith is Howe’s replacement?
February 7, 2026 at 10:47 am #316069I’d expect Smith to score double what Howe would have given how many fans greeted his return like the second coming.
February 7, 2026 at 10:48 am #316070Smiths being in the building for 3 weeks now, and Butler still said a forward was incoming.
Just been on alty site they’ve just signed someone on loan till the end of the season, scored 60+ goals in 2 seasons for Gainsborough and 10 goals in 31 games this season in their league, makes you wonder why we didn’t have a punt on him.

He nearly got off the mark against Horsham with something quite spectacular.
February 7, 2026 at 11:36 am #316073perhaps the loss of ££££ losing to Horsham has forced our hand and no one wants the other strikers.
1-11 we are still good the tricky bit if teams park the bus we have nothing coming off the bench. Match day squad is weaker with no HoweFebruary 7, 2026 at 1:58 pm #316074Dausch?

To be fair, I prefer the enthusiasm over a signing who performed well for us previously over the hyperbolic negativity over the ‘goalkeeping crisis’ with Campbell and Watson that saw us conceding a similar amount of goals to now.
February 7, 2026 at 2:59 pm #316079There was no enthusiasm when we signed Rory on loan neither when Butler announced Maison as the number 1 goalie.
Don’t think that many fans that don’t believe that the goalie position is the number 1 priority going into next season.
The exact same position that wasn’t addressed this season.1 user thanked author for this post.
February 7, 2026 at 4:07 pm #316080I don’t disagree that a goalkeeper is a priority.

February 7, 2026 at 8:07 pm #316096So we have sent Declan out!! And replaced him with 19 year old who spent the first half of the season at Forest Green, played 11 times and scored 1. But hey he’s come from Coventry (wow a first division player) and Declan only came from Gainsborough. Like to hear Butlers justification. If he is that good why didn’t Forest Green keep him..
February 7, 2026 at 8:53 pm #316097Butler’s justification on RH was that Dausch was injured at Forest Green and they had a squad of 41 players so he went back to Cov.
February 7, 2026 at 9:08 pm #316098I don’t know if this right but I’ve heard that Howe wanted out
February 7, 2026 at 9:09 pm #316099Their squad size is irrelevant, he went back to Coventry because he clearly wasn’t deemed good enough to get in FG’s team (managed to make 11 appearances off the bench so couldn’t have been that seriously injured).
He worked hard today in his brief cameo but that’s no different to what Dec would have done. Still find it a very strange decision unless Dec forced the move himself.

February 7, 2026 at 10:06 pm #316100As Northumbiron suggested I think Smith was Howe’s replacement. The lad from Coventry is probably more the replacement for Sellars Fleming.
February 8, 2026 at 8:06 am #316107Howe has done fairly well this season but he doesn’t really fit the system and Butler now has Smith and Dausch that look better suited to the role.
His goal return has been ok considering he has not played through the middle, but he is a bit limited and lacks a bit of quality. He could easily be sitting on 20 goals as he’s missed a hatful of easy chances.
Much will depend on how Dausch gets on but I think Howe will probably be quickly forgotten.
February 8, 2026 at 8:20 am #316110Flipping heck Matt you just broke Renes heart 😂
February 8, 2026 at 8:45 am #316112Can’t help thinking much of the outcry about Howe being loaned out is being amplified by social media. 30 years ago it would have passed with barely a grumble. Didn’t hear one person mention it in the Mortz yesterday. Seen a fair number of posts that are complaining the loudest include ‘Butler’ or ‘AB’ in them – a stick to beat him with?
February 8, 2026 at 10:56 am #316124“Unbelievable decision… doesn’t make any sense at all” “Not a popular decision”.Just cos it doesn’t mention Butler or AB doesn’t mean they’re not beating him with a stick that those do who mention him by name are or if they are, he the man who’s allowed it to happen surely if we’ve learned anything this week the man at the top making decisions will be questioned about the sense of it.
Not seen any post or heard from anyone who thinks this was a good decision.
Bye the bye now it’s done, let’s hope the new guy can contribute as much as Dec did, and hopefully Dec will come back stronger next season with more game time.February 8, 2026 at 11:26 am #316125I don’t know if this right but I’ve heard that Howe wanted out
Butler states here he wanted more playing time, hence the loan, initiated by Howe.

Seems like the one who’s been quickly forgotten is the one who’s actually starting in that position at the moment…Kyle Hurst!
February 8, 2026 at 11:33 am #316129Hopefully not for much longer.
February 8, 2026 at 11:38 am #316130See Maison kept a clean sheet for Bradford PA yesterday, will do the lads confidence good after his injury problems this season.

February 8, 2026 at 11:50 am #316132One would hope all the fringe players want more game time and keep pushing the manager, doesn’t mean you let them go out on loan to get it.
Maybe stop bringing players in that doesn’t fit the style of play you decide to play, Beck being the best example. -
