Wiley returns to the Gladiators
Matlock Town are pleased to announce the signing of towering defender Dwayne Wiley from Alfreton Town. Dwayne started his playing days at Buxton before playing for Heanor Town and then Mickleover Sports. He then made the switch to Matlock Town from Mickleover in the summer of the 2016/17 season where he made 185 appearances for the Gladiators, scoring eight times and becoming a fan favourite in the process. During the summer of the 19/20 season, Dwayne would join Alfreton Town, becoming a key member of the Reds National League North side whilst also being named club captain making 161 appearances.May 4, 2025 at 1:24 pm #304005So the official reason for leaving us with massive debt and no way of covering massive wages he brought in was because he bottled it? No other reason given.
He can’t even be bothered to bullshit properly anymore.
May 4, 2025 at 2:07 pm #304007Stop with all this Matlock crap.
Some of us tried to warn them, but they have not taken any notice, so they will get whatever they deserve.
Indo feel sorry for them, but they were warned.
Just thank God that he has gone.

May 4, 2025 at 2:51 pm #304008I agree IronIronIron, we need to focus on our own club, not others. The names Hilton and Swann bring forth so many unhappy memories I just don’t want to go there anymore. If either of them are reeking their own brand of havoc at any other football club then I don’t see why that is a headline act on this forum.
May 4, 2025 at 3:02 pm #304009And if they get a successful club you’ll applaud for getting what they deserve i take Iii.

Yes Phil let’s move on… They’ve had their vote.
Same with Spalding, great local club who I’ve been to many times but i wouldn’t set foot in there now if you paid me

…and if they go under you will come on here and say you were wrong about WHAM after all?
May 4, 2025 at 3:38 pm #304014I suspect not. Responsibility is for others.
May 4, 2025 at 3:43 pm #304016No, don’t mind anyone having a go, not that they’ve got a lot to lose anyway and I mean the club there.
Grounds got a covenant on it, with our debt we’re probably in a more financially dodgy position than them and certainly a lot further fall for us to then reform with a Phoenix club.May 6, 2025 at 4:25 pm #304125So it would appear that no one within the Matlock club was lying after all Montel has decided to stay after all after initially requesting to leave.
Sure Mtfcfan will be extremely happy now lol.
Matlock town and Hilton 1, Bullshiters 0. Who’d have thunked it.May 6, 2025 at 4:57 pm #304127Still doesn’t change the issue that the club said he committed to staying when he hadn’t given that it said it was a ‘return’ after negotiating.
May 6, 2025 at 5:03 pm #304128Another wage above their means?

May 6, 2025 at 6:44 pm #304129How many straws you clutching Sidey.
Without doubt there Cass, thank god we had him here for a little while, God knows where we would be this season without his signings.May 6, 2025 at 6:57 pm #304130It’s hardly a straw to clutch when Matlock have stated he has returned, meaning he had left, when before it wasn’t stated that there was any need for this and that he had committed. It may be that he had an informal agreement that he was coming back afterwards, but given he did leave for a bit and there was no way of anyone (like MTFC fan) knowing, it’s hardly nonsense to have previously interpreted him going as not fulfilling what was stated.
Mtfcfan stated that the club claimed Montel had committed, he left, no-one knew about the outcome of any new negotiations until more recently.
May 6, 2025 at 7:27 pm #304131Hardly what one was posting before Sidey, your now saying what Matlock have said really! Wheres the guilt tripping and lies gone, or Dave might end up calling Montel a rotter. Lol.
May 6, 2025 at 7:33 pm #304132That was based on information that we had at the time and some suppositions* based on his own history with claiming he’d been hard done by because of meanies like Taft, Bru, Matt Slater and every Tom, Dick and Harry who has it in for poor Dave. With new information things change, obviously. Though, given none of what has been said has refuted that he did leave, I don’t think it really makes interpretations at the time (with less information) any more unfair. Hilton’s history is bound to create cynicism.
*I mean this is no different to your own suppositions that Montel had betrayed poor Dave, as well as the 250k bad debt being for the stadium, there are no boardroom rifts because they held hands etc, lol
May 6, 2025 at 7:44 pm #304134Made no such supposition that Montel betrayed poor Dave, he did however betray the Matlock board at the time when saying he would be staying.
That’s what Matlock fans were told Matlockfc said himself.May 6, 2025 at 7:48 pm #304135The club saying Montel had committed at the time doesn’t mean he actually had done. We don’t know who was fibbing, but one connected had a history. Given him returning doesn’t change that something was not wholly truthful, nothing has really been proven or disproven.

Aye and doesn’t Awaywego love him, mind you it suits his agenda so it’s no surprise.

Has he got an agenda or does he just like being objectionable, and does he enjoy going fishing?

You got it that’s the agenda.
May 7, 2025 at 1:26 pm #304151Even if he hadn’t said he committed to staying, he was under contract to stay so to then ask to be released from his contract shows his worth and commitment.
May 7, 2025 at 2:11 pm #304156The club should and probably would have known that when they claimed he was committed. Rights or wrongs of Montel initially wanting pastures new, saying he had committed when he hadn’t, at the time, to convince people to vote for Dave was guilt tripping and doesn’t seem to have been the case as of the vote. Montel ‘betraying the club’ by wanting out of a contract doesn’t force them to fib.
May 7, 2025 at 2:28 pm #304157Guess your minds made up sidey, you just keep clutching them straws.
May 7, 2025 at 2:31 pm #304158If some new info comes to light, I will change my mind. My supposition that Dave could start blaming Montel was wrong given recent updates, but nothing has been brought forward changes my mind that Matlock urging fans to vote yes for Dave to keep Montel because he was committed, when that seemingly wasn’t the case at the time, was a bit loose with the truth. You yourself have admitted he wasn’t committed at the time, so this was still a fib.
May 7, 2025 at 2:37 pm #304159I said “IF” sidey. And that’s definitely not admitting.
May 7, 2025 at 2:47 pm #304161News reports from last month do say he had asked to leave to explore interest at a higher level, he did initially leave despite claims he was fully committed. I doubt his sudden departure a matter of a day or two after the vote was unexpected. You were right in that he wasn’t committed to the club in your talk of how he did leave afterwards, which is not an if.
