Non league paper mentions him making “good saves”

July 13, 2025 at 1:59 pm #306815Support your manager. If a decision needs to be made I am sure Mr Butler will make it.
This is probably why a no.2 not yet signed. Needs to be a bit above a rookie/untested keeper who can step up if so required.

July 13, 2025 at 2:58 pm #306820Under contract at Man Utd til 2028. Would have to be a loan AND surely they would expect him to be the Number One keeper.
Injured himself in training (hamstring), out for six weeks and still drawing his wages. No good to no one right now!
July 13, 2025 at 3:00 pm #306822With the budget as it is probably wanting a look at Louis Jones when he gets fit, a bit injury prone through by all accounts.

Some will want him gone by mid September, just wait they always start crowing early season.

July 13, 2025 at 4:54 pm #306829That would be the kind of error which might take us from top half back to NLN.

Will be honest not 100% a Butler fan. His stubborn attitude when insisting on his defensive failure nearly cost us promotion – another 2 weeks of it could have sealed the deal. But he changed and I hope stupid formations do not return this season, we got promoted so he has the job.
Has to be given the opportunity and considering the budget I think he has wheeled reasonably well. We know it was reduced wages that Max K left because his offer was less then previous. The club is still in recovery mode with its finances and everyone needs to accept this. Common sense now is the priority.
So got any ideas to increase revenue then send them to the club I am sure they would appreciate.
Best to all for a good season.

July 14, 2025 at 10:02 am #306855Following up on an idea I heard voiced over the weekend – how much money is lost to us – and countless other clubs – by not doing the American ballgame thingy?
I refer to people going around the ground with a basket – or whatever – delivering snacks to the 90% who really don’t wanna queue.
That’s a great deal of potential custom. It might only raise a couple of grand net every game with, say, eight to 12 purveyors delivering assorted overpriced goodies and drinks up and down the aisles.
It could potentially raise a great deal more.
My only reservation is that they all should be fully trained to minimise disruption to people’s viewing the football.
If thought and planning went into this – we could probably fund the wages of a couple of players who would otherwise be far too pricey for us.
Free entrance to the ground for the grafters + £30 each would surely tempt more than a few.
This is just a first response, SanFran, the idea needs a fair bit of work and attention but, after polishing, it really ought to work.July 14, 2025 at 10:10 am #306856I sent this to JM.
July 14, 2025 at 11:14 am #306857Sounds like a no brainer. A seafood concession like they used to do in pubs would be grand.

Yeah exactly, had they got their way we’d certainly lost most of our remaining games while changing formation to 4 4 2 for all the remaining games ,rather than the formation which kept us so many clean sheets .I’m more worried about losing half of a good center back pairing TBH
July 14, 2025 at 11:51 am #306860Max was decent and I feel would have improved.
Where did he go?July 14, 2025 at 12:07 pm #306861Them there ‘monkey hangers’
July 14, 2025 at 12:16 pm #306862Ah. Rivals, huh?
July 14, 2025 at 12:26 pm #306863Yes, his dipomatic reason was that he “wanted to play in front of big crowds”
So not for more money then? Yeh right!July 14, 2025 at 12:56 pm #306866I sent this to JM.
They trawl this site – many an ‘idea’ has been lifted & implemented from here.
It’s a powerful platform.July 14, 2025 at 1:02 pm #306867I refer to people going around the ground with a basket – or whatever – delivering snacks to the 90% who really don’t wanna queue.
Happens at footy games in Spain.
25 years ago, I was a season ticket holder for many years at the local Rugby Union club.
They did this (food) AND beer / lager way back then!July 14, 2025 at 2:15 pm #306869You know if we literally get behind our keeper when the season starts he will keep 46 clean sheets in the league games as the goal will be jam packed with fans all getting behind him! Good thread this one.

So not for more money then? Yeh right!I know of one Iron supporter who is 6ft 7 and at least two more at 6ft 6 how much bigger does Max want his crowd to be?
July 14, 2025 at 2:27 pm #306871Campbell is dropping clangers and looks a bag of nerves in pre season games in pretty meaningless matches. What’s he going to be like on match day in front of a bumper crowd ?
All well and good backing him, but he’s clearly struggling already. You can tell the poor sod is nowhere near ready and all Butler has done is heap a whole load of pressure on him by coming out publicly. I still don’t understand what his thinking was behind that.
July 14, 2025 at 2:44 pm #306874Budget.
Match winners – Whitehall, CR10
Match saver – keeperTake your pick.
I’m happy to have 2 match winners and a ‘development’ keeper.
A keeper won’t win you a game.
He’s big enough, he’ll grow in to it as the games go by.
July 14, 2025 at 6:18 pm #306879A keeper won’t win you a game.
Peter Schmeichel, Brad Friedel, Paul Robinson, Tim Howard, Asmir Begovic, Alisson,
Jimmy Glass!!!
July 14, 2025 at 6:33 pm #306880Keepers can win you a game or lose you a game, so can defenders, so can forwards that’s why it’s a team game. A keeper is a member of a team they all have the capability of winning or losing a game based on their performance on the day, just banging on about the keeper being gash ( in their opinion) is no different to saying a forward is gash for missing easy chances. It’s always been the case a keeper can make one cock up after making three or four decent saves which prevented goals and fans bang on about that one mistake, a forward can miss four or five easy chances then bag a late goal to win or draw a game that looked lost and he’s the dog’s bollocks in fans eyes. That’s the just the human nature mindset of the average football fan, was it ever thus.
July 14, 2025 at 7:25 pm #306881Nonsense, there’s a big difference in your argument. If a striker misses 4 or 5 chances but bags the winner every game he’d be playing for Real Madrid. If a keeper makes 3 or 4 saves and then drops a clanger every game he’ll be unemployed.

July 14, 2025 at 7:44 pm #306882Fitz made mistakes and cost us points, from what i remember he was given a lot of leeway because of his overall performances that saved us points, you’ve got to earn that leeway though.
Up to now and I’ve seen Mason in 3 games and earned nothing up to now. How many games have you seen him play in and I don’t mean on the telly.
Whereas we gave Beck a few games before calling him, but one goal from him that wins a game ain’t going to make him the dogs bollocks.
Got a long way to go before he earns that.
So its not that human nature you hark on.
Just calling it on what i see.Slagged uzbekistan off but he earned his praise in the end.
Unfortunately for goalies tJuly 14, 2025 at 8:13 pm #306883Nonsense, there’s a big difference in your argument. If a striker misses 4 or 5 chances but bags the winner every game he’d be playing for Real Madrid. If a keeper makes 3 or 4 saves and then drops a clanger every game he’ll be unemployed.
I never said every game, you should absorb a post before rushing in with both feet, your mind is made up anyway about Campbell so I guess the one sided bias will continue.
July 14, 2025 at 8:19 pm #306884Another forward in someone must be leaving? We look to have a lot of competition for forward positions and very little defensive choice at the moment.
Thought goalkeeper and defender was the priority ?July 14, 2025 at 10:41 pm #306887The point you were trying to make is still nonsense, a big mistake by a keeper and a miss from a striker aren’t comparable. Maison Campbell is not a good goalkeeper and should be nowhere near our first team. That opinion is based on what my own two eyes have seen, not unfair bias.

July 14, 2025 at 10:49 pm #306888If I remember correctly he said Right Back, Winger and Keeper.
Chadwick is obviously the winger, although it looked like it would be Chapman or Simmonds. Hey-ho!
No number 2 shirt been allocated as yet so I reckon there’ll be a RB coming in before long.
As for that second goalkeeper???
