Surely he’ll have other offers. I’d be surprised if he didn’t.

There’s plenty of not very good ” experienced” keepers out there. I just wouldn’t mind a good one.Weve just spent a year worshipping an OK one, with at best ok distribution

He was very good for the level we were at, but he was nothing extraordinary. A poster last week had him up to Mussy , Murphy and Luke Daniels level which was an interesting take.

We had the best keeper in the division, his distribution was outstanding for NLN and would be good a few divisions higher. An OK keeper would have kept us in NLN for another year.

The clean sheets over two seasons is extraordinary enough, I reckon an OK keeper would have been nowhere near the consistency of Ross IMO.

It’s not just the keeper that is solely responsible for clean sheets.

He’s had a pretty decent defence in front of him.
I was too upset losing Fitz, But we need a #1 to come in. Campbell ain’t the answer.

Very wild. Best distribution for a keeper I’ve seen at Glanny park.

If the GK position is not covered to pretty much the same levels as it has been over the last two seasons – everything we had been hoping for in the NL would be imperilled.

Ironking’s opening post has it. GK is the most important position on the field at this level.

Why? Coz you start the game with a clean sheet. If you can keep it clean, you get a point. And, with a bit of luck up front, you get three. So, you build from the back.

It’s easier to stop goals than score them, and a confident GK who can organise and spread confidence in the defence, particularly in a young team, gives us a chance next season.

Good GK’s and defenders are much cheaper than good forwards. This is a hard league and we’re hard up. A good keeper won’t save just save shots, but points and money too.

I’m guessing he fits the budget?

    Goalkeeper budget = X

Is a 2X keeper twice as good as an X keeper?

Is a 4X keeper four times better than an X keeper.

If we could have afforded to keep the National Leagues Keeper of the year then I’m sure we’d have made every effort to do so?

A case of cutting our cloth?

What car do you drive daily – what car would you love to be driving daily?

    Want: decent goalkeeper.
    Need: decent goalkeeper.

Like said above, this is not a position we can afford to scimp on! We’ve seen this before haven’t we…”give the young lad Rory Watson a chance, how can he gain experience without playing”…that didn’t turn out very well did it.

We had the best keeper in the division

Without doubt. I said he was very good at that level. We definitely need another GK, which I’m sure we’ll get, but it better be an experienced one who can easily slot in if Campbell struggles.

No chance an experienced goalkeeper agrees to sign as the backup to someone who has never started a league game for a full-time professional football club.

Oh I’m sure there’s an experienced wage thief keeper happy to come in, sit on the bench and try and look interested, we’ve had em before over the years in outfield positions.

Ok, I get it. I’d like it too.
However, if you’ve only got X to spend on a keeper… how are you going to fund 4X ?

Are supporters going to put their hands in their pockets and subsidise Keeper4X’s wages?

We need to increase attendances to increase budget.

A bottom third side will surely have lower gates than those of a promotion season.

Our current keeper has been playing second fiddle to and learning from someone who’s apparently a cross between Pat Jennings and Edwin Van Der Sar ,surly he’s learned a lot from our world class previous keeper.

A keeper costing 2x isn’t twice as good as a keeper costing x. There’s a law of diminishing returns. A keeper costing 2x or 3x might only be marginally better. But he might have more years left, be less injury prone, have league experience and played in good teams.

Full disclosure: I asked GPT to clarify. Here’s what it said.

The market value of a goalkeeper in football is influenced by a mix of performance-based, contractual, club-related, and external market factors. Here’s a breakdown of the key influences:
    ________________________________________

    1. Performance and Ability
    • Shot-stopping ability: Consistent saves, especially in high-pressure moments.
    • Clean sheets: A high number signals strong performance.
    • Distribution: Passing accuracy and ability to play out from the back are highly valued in modern football.
    • Command of area: Aerial presence, catching/punching crosses, and organizing the defense.
    • Penalty-saving record: Adds to perceived clutch ability.
    • Mistake frequency: Errors leading to goals negatively impact value.
    ________________________________________
    2. Age and Potential
    • Prime age: Keepers peak later than outfield players (often 28–35). Younger goalkeepers with strong potential fetch high values due to longevity.
    • Experience vs. potential: Veterans bring consistency, while younger keepers bring resale value.
    ________________________________________
    3. Contract Situation
    • Contract length: Longer contracts = higher value (club has more negotiating power).
    • Release clauses: If present, they cap value.
    • Wage demands: High wages can deter buyers, lowering market value.
    ________________________________________
    4. Club and League Factors
    • Current club stature: A keeper at a top-tier club often has a higher baseline value.
    • League visibility: Goalkeepers in top 5 European leagues are generally valued higher.
    • European competition exposure: Champions League/Europa League experience boosts reputation.
    ________________________________________
    5. Reputation and Intangibles
    • International appearances: Regular call-ups and performance in major tournaments increase value.
    • Leadership: Captains or vocal organizers are highly prized.
    • Injury record: Frequent injuries can reduce value sharply.
    • Marketability: Personality, fan appeal, and sponsorship potential can play a minor role.
    ________________________________________
    6. Transfer Market Trends
    • Demand for top keepers: If multiple top clubs are seeking a keeper, prices rise.
    • Scarcity: Fewer elite goalkeepers compared to outfield players means top keepers can command premiums.
    • Recent comparable transfers: Prices of similar players (e.g., Alisson, Kepa, Ramsdale) set benchmarks.
    ________________________________________
If you’re evaluating a specific goalkeeper’s market value or comparing two keepers, I can break it down using this framework. Just let me know!
