The biggest news from her BBC Humberside interview with Ollie Turner today:
There was an offer for Cal Roberts last week, which was discussed at board level and with the player and manager, and the player doesn’t want to leave and wants to stay next season too. So the offer was rejected.
There is a local business person who has contacted Michelle in the last 24 hours to ask for a meeting as they want to step up and be the fifth investor, the fifth board member.
March 24, 2025 at 4:53 pm #300505As stated in the interview, every cloud.

March 24, 2025 at 6:44 pm #300522Great news if true about Cal Roberts. I’m amazed he didn’t have any EFL contract verbally agreed by Christmas.
Time will tell if he did or not as it must have been a National League side that made the offer.

The Gainsborough Trinity guy.
March 24, 2025 at 7:27 pm #300532She said an Efl club MK.
March 24, 2025 at 7:33 pm #300535Bullshit then. EFL club cannot sign him until summer window and they don’t need to pay us a cent to do that.
Unless he has a contract for next season with us that the club forgot to mention.
March 24, 2025 at 10:35 pm #300557It was national league she meant.
Be amazed if Cal was here in August, heard a couple of clubs are interested- one in the EFL.
A testament to the lad if he wants to stay and takes a hefty wage cut though; he’s clearly enjoying his football.
March 25, 2025 at 6:34 am #300562He’ll end up at Donny.

Or worse …………… the Cods
March 26, 2025 at 3:55 pm #300727Wishful thinking regarding him staying I think. Every right for him to cash in on a brilliant, injury-free season. L2 move at least.

Well we wouldn’t want to stand in his way blah blah blah and in this instance we can’t afford too anyway, hope he gets a cracking well paid move he deserves it on this season’s showing.
April 23, 2025 at 1:05 pm #303201For anyone who missed it heres the Cal Roberts interview on why he did not move to Gateshead … IMO after reading it where ever we are playing next season he wont be at Scunny… cant blame the fella at least he had enough passion to stick around to try and get us promoted.
April 23, 2025 at 1:10 pm #303203Wishful thinking regarding him staying I think.
Agreed. I think when the Gateshead offer came in he did the decent thing and expressed his loyalty to the immediate cause by staying. Fair play – thanks Callum. Good luck with your move to wherever in the summer.
April 23, 2025 at 1:17 pm #303204A cynic might say it would have been a pay cut for 5 months.

April 23, 2025 at 3:37 pm #303215He’d be great in league 2 IMO maybe the Cods can afford him after they get beat in the playoffs.
April 23, 2025 at 4:19 pm #303216If the cods can afford him so can we they lost £1.68 million last season, ours chicken feed to theirs.
April 23, 2025 at 4:29 pm #303217If the cods can afford him so can we they lost £1.68 million last season, ours chicken feed to theirs.
It’s all about whether he’ll accept lower wages in line with the new wage structure, when he’s out of the old contract and offered a new one. You’d guess not. Who would?

And about how much he wants to play at a higher level.
April 23, 2025 at 4:49 pm #303219Or whether our lower wage structure offer is better or close to Gateshead et al.
Similar situation for the other OOCs I’d have thought.April 23, 2025 at 4:55 pm #303220Or whether our lower wage structure offer is better or close to Gateshead et al. Similar situation for the other OOCs I’d have thought.
Perhaps, yes. Michelle did, a little while ago, allude to the fact that some players prefer the security of longer contracts even if that means lower wages. So that might come into play.
April 23, 2025 at 5:11 pm #303221Location could also be a factor, Roberts is NE based so I reckon it would take a substantial offer to tempt him much further south.
April 23, 2025 at 5:11 pm #303222If there is one player worth bending (or even breaking) our wage structure for it is Roberts.
It would be crazy for him to stay here if we remain in NLN but if we did stagger through the play offs who knows. Personally I think now he has proved his long term fitness a few EFL clubs will be making him offers but currently no League 1 or 2 clubs in his neck of the woods unless York win the National League playoffs.
April 23, 2025 at 5:33 pm #303224He’s played a whopping 3 games above National League level in his career (on loan at League 2 Colchester in 2019).
Can’t really see League 1/2 clubs coming in for a 28 year old plying his trade in the NLN. He’ll end up in the NL next season but probably not with us.
April 23, 2025 at 5:52 pm #303226Carlisle about half the distance of Scunny but they could be NL next season.

You can’t set up a sensible wage structure in the aim of sustainability and then just go and break it for one player. All the others would be rather miffed.
April 23, 2025 at 6:48 pm #303231If you’re a half decent footballer on a grand a week and James Perch arrives on 4 grand a week you’re miffed.
If you’re a journeyman National League player on a grand a week and someone joins your team that scores 20 goals and double figure assists in a season but is on 2 grand a week then you’re delighted.April 23, 2025 at 7:55 pm #303237If you’re a half decent footballer on a grand a week and James Perch arrives on 4 grand a week you’re miffed.

It’s not the done thing. If there’s a particular wage structure in place for sustainability reasons it should apply to all.
