Was looking forward to going back. I like Roots Hall but it’s a bit of a faff.
June 1, 2025 at 7:37 pm #305268Good selection of grounds next year; must admit I was getting sick of travelling 2 hours to stand on a concrete step with no roof and a portaloo as an away end.
Carlisle/Morecambe/Halifax/Hartlepool and of course Truro on the bucket list for next year.
June 1, 2025 at 9:38 pm #305276I think I remember fans64 handing out “Laws Out” T-shirts at Boundary Park.
June 1, 2025 at 9:40 pm #305278Only been the once to Roots Hall, around 2004. Got tonked by at least four goals, never went back.
June 2, 2025 at 4:27 am #305299Well done to Oldham , never gave up and im sure Mr Rothwell will throw a big party for the players n fans.
One of my last away games before departing UK shores was Roots hall and yes we lost ..still a cracking day out a few glasses of orange quash in the pub on the hill overlooking the sea.
One thing is without doubt the NLN was a hard league but the NL is getting stronger by the year and fingers crossed we can survive and consolidate.
Carlisle, Southend, Rochdale, FGR, York, Hartlepool, Morecambe and Yeovil to name just a few who will be toughies and operating will bigger budgets … yes budgets dont always win leagues but they bloody well help a lot.June 2, 2025 at 6:04 am #305301I think I remember fans64 handing out “Laws Out” T-shirts at Boundary Park.
I had one of those, got interviewed by Natalie Jackson live on Humberside then some old fart came along and started ranting and raving. Was at an away match
June 2, 2025 at 9:17 am #305313Ha I’d love it to be true but you over estimate my generosity
June 2, 2025 at 9:25 am #305317Agree it will be a tough league and you will have to get your recruitment spot on to have a good season – Carlisle had the largest budget in league 2 last season and did really badly – they just signed Linney from Altrincham for 250k and paying him heavily , we were in for him but they blew us out the water . Same with York they will be throwing money about again and paying fees . Very tough league now it’s weird as it seems like a lot of nl are better than quite a lot of teams in league 2 i think it should be 3 up 3 down now really .
June 2, 2025 at 10:06 am #305325Tamworth finished in the top half of the table after promotion, so there’s no reason why we can’t match that.

23 pts and 12 wins more than Oldham

Unless you’re a Southend supporter of course.

June 3, 2025 at 9:33 am #305375I’m in favour of her argument. Though I wonder if she’d have been so vociferous had they gone up?

York city have a short memory, National league North 2021/2022, York were promoted to the National league in the play offs despite finishing in 5th place 21 points behind Brackley who finished 2nd.
Best this York city owner keeps her mouth firmly shut!June 3, 2025 at 10:12 am #305378I’m in favour of her argument. Though I wonder if she’d have been so vociferous had they gone up?
Yeah exactly that .. my agreement was more in line with the promotion system needing changing rather than feeling sorry for any specific team as all know the rules when a season kicks off.
IMO the promotion formula could be made fairer.

Best this York city owner keeps her mouth firmly shut! She’s in line with much of the youth of today, if it happened “before their time” then it didn’t really happen.
June 3, 2025 at 10:37 am #305381I’ve always despised the play offs, and always will. It’s no more than a money making, keep interest in the season going, exercise. If it’s two/three/four up it should the teams that finish in those places that are promoted.
June 3, 2025 at 2:44 pm #305397Indeed, the only way you can make it fairer is to do away with the playoffs and have a straight top 2/3/4 promoted.
With byes and home advantage for 2nd & third placed clubs the NLN/S is probably fairer than most divisions.
I mean, have you seen the shitshow they have in Scotland?
June 3, 2025 at 3:34 pm #305399Personally, I think 3 up is a good idea – as long as the third of those is through the Play Offs. I like the system, it’s exciting and adds incentive – and York’s hard luck this time round is just the way the cookie crumbles.
Incidentally, I think I’m right in saying that in both 1999 and 2009 Scunthorpe were not the top finishing team out of those that contested the Play Offs.

Looking forward to playing York next season, their fanbase have a massive chip on their shoulder from that time they claimed we cheered at half time they might go out of business.
June 3, 2025 at 4:24 pm #305402I hope they do change it,. Next season and they finish 3rd. Bleating because you lost is unseemly.
June 3, 2025 at 4:30 pm #305403Her argument seems to also steeped in the idea that league clubs should have a better chance of going back up?
Perhaps the 2 up structure has helped variety and stopped a closed shop?June 3, 2025 at 5:02 pm #305404I think it should be 3 up , 2 automatically and another via playoffs.
