Any and every manager must properly cover the key positions.
My concern is that insufficient attention was given to this critical issue.
A second CB – Howe – suggested that we were on track. However, packing the side with RBs was just bonkers. Firstly, you are expecting players to all be versatile. A dreadful error.
It also means that you leave other areas inadequately covered.
My typical contention that you should have a big, tough CM has been ignored again. (Plenty of other sides have them!)
Trying to use magic dust to turn attacking players into wingbacks is – again- bonkers.
After last season with all the messing and loans, you would have thought that bringing in a decent, experienced GK would have been number one priority. Louis would be a decent backup – but no.
And before we are told that all of these things are too expensive – well, I reckon that we have at least three/four players we needn’t have signed at all – or kept. Think how their wages could have helped us to have picked two better incomers.
IMHO this is the worst recruiting I can remember in at least 4 decades.
It’s no surprise to me that AB is getting desperate.
The worst thing here is that I cannot see how this mess can easily be corrected – even if we were able to recruit an experienced manager at a budget we might be able to afford.
