The argument was always about his money and the evidence of that is lacking. What happened following with CCJs, not paying staff etc should be clear enough to anyone that he wasn’t some loaded, well meaning benefactor (but he showed an email to Simon Elliot!) and “he didn’t have to pay staff because he had hurt feelings” is a crap excuse. Now Matlock is showing worrying signs, but look at what he did at Ilkeston will wear thin now (and I do wonder if Nally had more of a stabilising hand there) that Scunthorpe was a major disaster under his watch, from his own actions, which put the club at risk and now Matlock. Going to see Ilkeston, which has little meaning to what he did at Scunny would have done nothing to assuage the very real worries coming from the club at the time that all, bar the deluded, see through now.
