I have no idea why ‘they’ would lie about the NHS being close to collapse. That is not a good look for the country or government. Countries that did lie and are authoritarian, like North Korea, Nicaragua, Turkmenistan and Russia were saying they were free from covid, no-one is dying here, promise, because the incentive was to downplay.
