Sad news indeed and my condolences to his family, friends and former team mates. There is a nice item on him on the club website pre this news.
Never gave less than 100% for the fans and he was a very quiet and modest person, was a pleasure to talk to and a sad day when he left the club. Remember that cup goal – didn’t Chris Simpkin make the killer pass to him ?
RIP Stuart.
Yes. According to Staffy, ‘all United’s forwards stood on one side of the centre circle. Houghton passed to Collier on the first blast of the whistle. Collier turned to ease it back to Simpkin. Simpkin ran forward, moved to the left and passed to Pilling. Stuart Pilling lobbed the ball high over the top of the stretching fingers of King in the Millwall goal as he toppled backwards in despair. Twelve seconds 1-0 and the game effectively won’.
