All crimes are there ‘for our own good’. If it’s a scary totalitarian state to have laws at all we’d have chaos under anarchy. No murder, fraud, theft, rape or other crimes could be punished because laws ‘for our own good’ is apparently totalitarianism.
This doesn’t mean that this law is good, but arguing against enacting laws because laws that consider how others are treated are evil communism is a daft argument. I am also not inclined to take anyone seriously about totalitarian states coming when they are support the ever growing authoritarian rhetoric and rulings coming from the USA.
