Good points Rene: I know our crowds have held up well during our plight, but there has been little growth in the 25 years or so I’ve supported us for. We do well, we average close to 4K, playing crap- they hover above 3k. As much as dislike the bloke, Swann must’ve been banging his head against a wall when the 2016-2018 teams in league 1 couldn’t get more then 4K home fans through the door.
Clubs local to us have seen crowds explode post covid: For differing reasons Grimsby, Lincoln, Mansfield, York, Chesterfield are all filling their grounds or seen a sharp rise in crowds. I don’t expect 7/8k per week as the population can’t support it, but surely it’s not overly ambitious to aim for half filling the ground every week?
Perhaps an option for the club to try something different could be to hold some focus groups- 10/11/12 supporters in a room with a representative from the club and see if anything comes from it. The fans forums are usually too large to hold any meaningful debate.
