Thanks for the kind welcome. Firstly, I OWN Trent McLenehan’s ACTUAL playing shirt from his time with the Iron. I keep thinking one day he is going to see me at the supermarket rifling through damaged apples wearing his curry-stained shirt and thongs. I think it’s what he would have wanted. So yes, I think he deserved better. I wonder how many other Scunthorpe players have competed at the Olympics?
Secondly, I did the working holiday thing in 2007/08, so was able to see about half a dozen games in person. Many highlights, but an away day at MK Dons and seeing a ridiculous stadium built in an ASDA car park was definitely a memory. Ian Morris and Gary Thompson both scored in the second half, quietening all three of the home fans. The weird dog kept barking though.
My origin story though is probably not very unique. My parent drove from Edinburgh to London in 1974 and my Dad told me all the places they went along the way. Then I started playing CM and CM2 in the early 90s and wanted to choose a lower league team.. Scunthorpe United jumped out at me for some reason (maybe the awesome colours) and the rest is history.
