Sometimes players are under instruction to do things which can mask as not being good enough or bothered. Southgate at the Euros was a classic example of players on the leash and off the leash (chasing the game when down).Most would agree when behind and a formation change has been necessary the threat levels we pose went up / so there is something there to work with. I just want Butler to at least try something beyond a 3-5-2/5-3-2 formation and see what it yields. Every footballer in the land, pro or a amateur can play a 4-4-2/4-3-3, I wish Butler would at least try it – for the sake of his job because I want him to succeed.
