What I saw today.
A team that set up 3-3-4 away from home, very impressive. Seamlessly they moved to 4 or 5 across the back when required. Exploited the channels well and targeted our sole midfielder to win possession from the off and use the ball to attack from all angles by simply running at us. Plus their abundance of strikers closed us down straight away.
A great team to watch and another lesson for our manager they have won 9 drawn 1 and lost 7, their boss has worked it out quite well that draws are no good.
By contrast the frailties that have dogged us all season and become more prevalent since October are getting worse. The system is wrong we are deficient in midfield with massive holes either side of Clunan. Denton and Barrows look lost and create nothing, the back three look all at sea, totally uncomfortable and make the basic of errors.
We have become shot shy, Whitehall, Carlton, Fishburn, Clunan, Beestin and Roberts until the 94th minute offered very little to zilch in respects of a goal threat.
2-1 down at home and our players main priority is to get back into the 5-3-2 formation to defend, so much so we did not until late even press their keeper when he was 5-6 yards out of his box.
I see a side who are frightened to go forward, the players stiff and rigid, a mindset of defence.
Out of the last 5 games we have lost 3 of them by a 3-2 scoreline, the fans are disgruntled and openly booed the manager and his poor substitutions today.
Another big worry in injury time when we stated to actually play and attack and were on the ascendancy our own momentum was broken by Kelly needlessly flattening a Buxton player.
This allowed Buxton to calm down, stop flapping and gather themselves together. The resulting free kick a nonentity and the ascendancy lost. Well done Kelly.
Poor tactics, poor discipline, no creativity, no football and more importantly no entertainment.
You have lost me Messer’s Butler and Schofield, worse I think the dressing room too.
The only difference between Jimmy’s team and this one is that they can run for 90 minutes instead of 70.
Great post.
